A year before he brought us Die Hard John McTiernan brought us Predator, from the writing team of the Thomas Brothers, it’s a story about a group of Mercenaries tricked into a rescue mission that lands them without back up and stranded in the middle of the Cambodian jungle. Thinking they are going on a rescue mission to recover the men aboard a down helicopter Arnold Schwarzenegger leads his team of Jesse Ventura, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, and Sonny Landham into the jungle to bring back the men and dispose of those responsible for their disappearance. Unknown to them they face a greater threat than ever encountered before, the Predator is an alien being from a distant planet on a hunting trip and we are the prey. Who will survive only time will tell?
The filming on this movie was done nicely and for the time the effects were the best in the business. The action sequences done very well still to this day set a certain bar for jungle action movies and the acting of the cast fully supports its ability to stand alone as a great sci-fi action film. The only member of the cast whose abilities may have fell short would be Elpidia Carrillo, whose character was needed for the film but still somewhat of a bland performance. Not being the Govenator’s best performance he does make it feel as thou Commando goes to fight an alien. But overall it is a movie worth having in any collection.
