According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is hoping to boost the movie&#8217;s earnings even more by taking advantage of the long holiday weekend. This Friday, &#8220;The Avengers&#8221; will be playing in 1,700 theaters. This is a big increase in theaters, since the film was almost done with its theatrical run, playing in only 123 locations last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>This extension might give &#8220;The Avengers&#8221; the $40 million it needs to pass James Cameron\u2019s &#8220;Titanic&#8221; to become to No. 2 highest-grossing movie domestically. This last-minute push briefly precedes the film&#8217;s DVD and Blu-Ray release on September 25th. Disney will also use this expansion method for Pixar&#8217;s &#8220;Brave,&#8221; according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film&#8217;s domestic theater count will increase from 452 to 1,700 this weekend.
