Turns out four new wide releases was nothing to be excited about, none of last weekend\u2019s debuts earning more than $15 million. We\u2019ve only got three new films entering the race this last weekend of September, but between those three and last weekend\u2019s quartet only moving into weekend two, we might see the profits split yet again. With 3,349 theaters and no competition in the kid-friendly department, \u201cHotel Transylvania\u201d should easily secure the top spot, possibly matching Adam Sandler\u2019s \u201cJack and Jill\u201d with about $25 million. Thanks to quite a bit of hype and positive reviews, \u201cLooper\u201d should come in right behind, matching \u201cSource Code\u201d and \u201cSurrogates\u201d with $15 million. \u201cWon\u2019t Back Down,\u201d on the other hand, likely won\u2019t earn enough to trail \u201cLooper\u201d and will find itself in the fourth position with $8 million, slightly less than 2007\u2019s \u201cFreedom Writers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Positive word of mouth could keep \u201cEnd of Watch\u201d going strong, possibly only losing 40% and taking another $8 million. However, there\u2019s no avoiding the obligatory 50% weekend two horror drop for \u201cHouse at the End of the Street.\u201d It\u2019ll be lucky to earn another $6 million and barely beat out \u201cTrouble with the Curve\u201d for the sixth spot. \u201cTrouble with the Curve\u201d may not be a horror film, but with such a lackluster start and lukewarm reviews, it\u2019ll lose steam fast, only earning $5.5 million in weekend two.<\/p>\n

\u201cFinding Nemo\u201d could experience a double take, losing 42% yet again for a weekend three total of $5.5 million while \u201cDredd\u201d might hold on strong enough to beat out \u201cResident Evil: Retribution\u201d for the eighth spot. Should \u201cRetribution\u201d take a 50% hit and positive buzz keep \u201cDredd\u201d afloat enough for a 40% drop, \u201cRetribution\u201d will take $3.5 million and \u201cDredd\u201d will earn just more than that. Rounding out the top ten should be The Master, which enjoyed a 496.4% boost courtesy of the additional 783 screens. Should it lose 35% of its weekend two profits, it\u2019ll wrap weekend three with just under $3 million.<\/p>\n
