“I saw [“Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2″ director] Jon Favreau at the Scream Awards and we had a conversation […] ‘I hope things are working out for you because we’re writing stuff for you.’ Then all of a sudden last week I talked to my agents and manager and things aren’t really working that well. […] There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it.” <\/p>\n
The main reason according to Jackson is that “There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world”. <\/p>\n
Marvel Studios’ official response to inquiries about the story is that “[the studio] does not comment on active negotiations.”<\/p>\n
Jackson first appeared as Nick Fury, the commander of the secret US agency SHIELD (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division) in a post-credits cameo in 2008’s summer hit “Iron Man”, starring Robert Downey. Jr as the armored superhero. Nick Fury debuted in 1963’s “Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos” as a WWII sergeant, though the character has since been retooled as a long-lived American superspy active since the second World War and the original commander of SHIELD. <\/p>\n
SHIELD first appeared in Marvel’s “Strange Tales” in August 1965 and first stood for “Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division”. In 1991 was redefined as “Strategic Hazard Intervention, Espionage Logistics Directorate”. SHIELD is generally portrayed in Marvel titles as a US-based, worldwide espionage and military group that deals with superhuman and super-powered threats.<\/p>\n
