Paramount previously made the two movies based on the game, but the rights have since reverted to game makers Eidos. When Time Warner upped its stake to 19.92% in Eidos in December, films rights to the property were included as part of the deal.<\/p>\n
Dan Lin will produce the project via his Lin Pictures while Stephen Gilchrist will co-produce; Ian Livingstone of Eidos will executive produce. The new project, however, is expected to revamp and re-imagine the character and her origins as a British adventurer, treasure hunter, and archaeologist, as well as her love interests and also introduce a new villain.<\/p>\n
The project is still in its nascent stages with no director or writer attached, though those are stated as forthcoming, with an actress to fill the shoes and gunbelt that Angelina Jolie did in the 2001 and 2003 “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life” films to be announced after that. <\/p>\n
“Tomb Raider”, which first debuted in 1996, is a video game detailing the adventures of the beautiful Lady Lara Croft, a British royal turned treasure seeker as she tackles mythology, legend, ancient civilizations, and various other antagonists in a quest for lost treasures. The game series has spun off into a worldwide phenomenon with two live-action films, a theme park ride, and a comic line from Top Cow Productions. The character of Lara Croft has since gone onto become one of video gaming\u2019s most recognizable characters, topping gaming magazines’ charts in terms of popularity and fan-favoritism. <\/p>\n
