The end nigh. Will the box office go out with a bang? Even with heavy hitters like \u201cLes Mis\u00e9rables,\u201d \u201cDjango Unchained,\u201d and \u201cThe Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,\u201d it\u2019ll be a so-so end to 2012.<\/p>\n

After a record-breaking Christmas Day opening, \u201cLes Mis\u00e9rables\u201d will undoubtedly come out on top. Should its $6,450 holiday opening get a $4,000 boost, it\u2019ll take $30 million for the full weekend. Even though \u201cDjango\u201d was just $3 million behind \u201cLes Mis\u201d on opening day, that gap will widen a bit for the full weekend, \u201cDjango\u201d posting something more along the lines of $25 million. <\/p>\n

After a brutal 56.3% weekend one to two drop, things will improve a bit for \u201cThe Hobbit.\u201d Should it lose 40% of its $36.9 million weekend two haul, it\u2019ll take another $22 million to the bank. \u201cParental Guidance\u201d has held up pretty well thus far, but hopefully it\u2019ll be able to bump its rather weak per theater average up to about $3,000 by Friday so it can take at least $10 million for the full weekend. As for \u201cJack Reacher,\u201d things won\u2019t improve much after its lackluster opening. With \u201cDjango\u201d and \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d snagging most of the action-seekers\u2019 cash, \u201cJack Reacher\u201d might be left with a 45% hit and only $8.5 million for its second weekend out.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Is 40\u201d looks to come in at #6 and even though it didn\u2019t have the greatest start, the lack of new adult comedy competition should let it hold onto 60% of its opening profits, but $7 million still won\u2019t be enough to steal the 5th spot from \u201cJack Reacher.\u201d Speaking of the lack of comedy competition, \u201cThe Guilt Trip\u201d is going down and it\u2019s going down fast. \u201cLincoln\u201d already managed to pass it on the daily charts and both \u201cMonsters, Inc. 3D\u201d and \u201cRise of the Guardians\u201d have a good shot at doing the same come the weekend. \u201cLincoln\u201d looks to be able to secure the 7th spot with another $3.5 million while \u201cRise of the Guardians\u201d will come in just behind with $3 million flat. Even though \u201cMonsters, Inc.\u201d had a subpar start, a far slower decline should help it top \u201cThe Guilt Trip.\u201d Should the former lose 40% and the latter 50%, \u201cMonsters\u201d will take 9th with about $2.8 million and \u201cThe Guilt Trip\u201d will round out the top ten with $2.5 million. <\/p>\n
