Abrams and \u201cStar Trek Into Darkness.\u201d Eleven days ago, a user named ideeeyut reached out to the Reddit community, explaining<\/a> a friend was diagnosed with leukemia and endured countless procedures only to be diagnosed with a second form of cancer, and a fatal one at that. Despite his condition, his wife took him to a screening of \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d so he could catch the preview footage of \u201cStar Trek Into Darkness.\u201d Unfortunately, the footage never screened so this man\u2019s friend, his wife and tons of Reddit users came out to support the cause and managed to catch Abrams\u2019 attention. Five days ago ideeeyut took to Reddit again to relay another message<\/a> from the man\u2019s wife. Abrams didn\u2019t just share the preview footage with them; he showed them the full film. In the post, the man\u2019s wife said, \u201cIt is also so wonderful for his friends & his family to finally hear some good news from us, they know how important film is to Daniel & could not think of a better way to please him. So this gesture really has brought a lot of smiles all around.\u201d Thumbs up to Abrams and all the best to Daniel and his loved ones. (via Yahoo! Movies<\/a>)<\/p>\n 3. \u201cCarrie\u201d Delayed:<\/FONT><\/B> Counting down to the big release of the \u201cCarrie\u201d remake on March 15th? Sadly your countdown just grew by seven months because Sony Pictures announced that \u201cCarrie\u201d will no longer be debuting on March 15th, rather on October 18th. The studio doesn\u2019t cite a reason for the delay, but if I had to guess (and I mean guess), I\u2019d say the need for reshoots would be the more likely culprit rather than box office competition. The film would have had no trouble going up against \u201cThe Call\u201d and \u201cThe Incredible Burt Wonderstone,\u201d but now faces \u201cThe Seventh Son\u201d and \u201cMalavita,\u201d both of which could be more of a challenge. On top of that, \u201cParanormal Activity 5\u201d and \u201cThe World\u2019s End\u201d are both due out the weekend after, which will undoubtedly affect its weekend two haul. Sony Takes Most Marketshare in 2012:<\/FONT><\/B> Regardless of the \u201cCarrie\u201d situation, Sony Pictures is still sitting pretty going into 2013 as the top studio in marketshare for 2012. Sony had its biggest year ever courtesy of films like \u201cSkyfall,\u201d \u201cThe Amazing Spider-Man\u201d and \u201cMIB 3,\u201d all of which helped it go on to accumulate $4.44 billion. The #2 spot went to Warner Bros. Pictures, which pulled in most of its $4.25 billion with \u201cThe Dark Knight Rises\u201d and \u201cThe Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey\u201d while Fox came in at #3 with $3.7 billion. Recently is was all about Jim Sturgess and Zachary Levi for the role of Peter Quill, but now Deadline<\/a> reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in the running, too. On top of that, \u201cSmallville\u201d star, Michael Rosenbaum, is busy tweeting<\/a> that he\u2019s reading for the role as well. Meanwhile ComicBookMovies.com<\/a> is reporting that Marvel is also hard at work trying to cast the role of Drax The Destroyer and that it\u2019s come down to Isaiah Mustafa, Brian Patrick Wade and Dave Bautista. These casting updates sound great and all, but clearly \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy\u201d is one of those films that outlets will jump on the second they\u2019ve got even the tiniest shred of news to report, so I\u2019d suggest staying wary until the official word comes straight from Marvel.<\/p>\n 6. Pixar Preview:<\/FONT><\/B> We may be left to drool over the stunning concept art<\/a> for the canceled film \u201cNewt,\u201d but Pixar also unveiled some designs for upcoming projects that are still expected to hit theaters in the coming years. \u201cMonsters University\u201d is the sure thing and the shot of Mike and Sulley at the gates of their new school will make you eager to follow them inside come June 21, 2013. A little further down the road for the summer of 2014 is Bob Peterson\u2019s \u201cThe Good Dinosaur,\u201d a piece that asks, what if that asteroid missed Earth and the dinosaurs were never killed off? Peter Docter\u2019s \u201cUntitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind\u201d is still heading towards a June 19, 2015 release while \u201cThe Untitled Pixar Movies About Dia de los Muertos\u201d is expected to drop in 2016. Trailers: \u201cGinger & Rosa,\u201d \u201cSide Effects,\u201d \u201cEvil Dead:\u201d<\/FONT><\/B> Hot on the heels of locking a March 15th US release date comes a brand new trailer for Sally Potter\u2019s \u201cGinger & Rosa.\u201d The piece stars Elle Fanning and Alice Englert as a pair of best friends growing up in London in the 1960s. We\u2019ve also got a new trailer for Steven Soderbergh\u2019s \u201cSide Effects<\/a>,\u201d giving us a more in-depth look at the mysterious and dangerous ramifications that come from taking a new anti-anxiety drug. However, none of those twisted consequences come anywhere close to the mayhem that goes down in the red band trailer for \u201cEvil Dead<\/a>.\u201d We\u2019ve got downright sick and disturbing imagery galore ranging from blood vomit to face mutilation and it\u2019s all powered by a booming soundtrack and wicked pace to make it that much more enthralling and unsettling.<\/p>\n 10. Box Office:<\/FONT><\/B> \u201cTexas Chainsaw 3D\u201d may have maintained the stigma that horror remakes, reboots and sequels are generally not very good, but it also proves that we\u2019ll still go and see them. The franchise\u2019s latest iteration kicks off its run with a strong $8,666 per theater average and $23 million total haul to win the weekend. \u201cDjango Unchained\u201d follows close behind, only dropping 33.3% for another $20.1 million while \u201cThe Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey\u201d took a tougher hit, losing 45.1% of its weekend three profits for $17.5 million this time around. I\u2019d like to bet Universal was hoping \u201cLes Mis\u00e9rables\u201d would be a top contender at this point in its run, but a 40.9% weekend two to three fall for another $16.1 million is still fairly solid. \u201cParental Guidance\u201d rounds out the top five, holding on stronger than expected, only slipping 30.4% and taking another $10.1 million to the bank.
