Alex Karpovsky is making his way towards becoming a household name courtesy of \u201cGirls,\u201d but he\u2019s also an accomplished filmmaker. In fact, Karpovsky is getting a double feature run at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center for his latest productions, \u201cRed Flag\u201d and \u201cRubberneck,\u201d via Tribeca Film and the Film Society of Lincoln Center.<\/p>\n
He directed, co-wrote, co-produced and stars in \u201cRed Flag,\u201d a comedy featuring Karpovsky as a version of himself trying to deal with a recent breakup while touring the country with an independent film. \u201cRubberneck\u201d veers towards the darker side, the self-directed production focusing on Karpovsky\u2019s Paul, a scientist working at a small research facility where he struggles with a crush on a co-worker who doesn\u2019t return the sentiment.<\/p>\n
With the double feature debuting on February 22nd, Karpovsky sat down to discuss how the pair of films came to be. Having made them both pre-\u201cGirls\u201d fame, he got to work just as any indie filmmaker would, trying to put the productions together using good friends and genuine passion for the material.
