As though a near $80 million opening weekend haul wasn\u2019t enough, \u201cOz the Great and Powerful\u201d could go on to take another $40 million to the bank in weekend two due to the lack of competition. \u201cThe Incredible Burt Wonderstone\u201d did get some added hype thanks to its SXSW debut, but with sour reviews and little appeal, it might only manage to secure $20 million its first weekend out, putting it in the second position.<\/p>\n

With a lackluster marketing campaign, \u201cThe Call\u201d won\u2019t be much of a moneymaker, but with such a huge gap between this weekend\u2019s biggest earners and the rest of the pack, a mere $7 million start could be enough to nestle in at #3. \u201cJack the Giant Slayer\u201d could be in for another tough hit thanks to \u201cOz.\u201d Should it drop 50% and take $5.5 million this time around, it\u2019ll barely keep on top of \u201cIdentity Thief,\u201d which is poised to maintain its gradual decline, drop just 40% and bring another $4 million to the bank.<\/p>\n

Even without much to lose, \u201cDead Man Down\u201d is heading towards a hefty hit. A 50% weekend one to two loss could cause it slip all the way down from #4 to #8, especially with \u201cSnitch\u201d and \u201c21 and Over\u201d currently enjoying minimal declines. Should \u201cSnitch\u201d find a happy medium between its weekend two and weekend three losses, it\u2019ll only drop about 38% from weekend three to four, which would give it another $3.1 million. As for \u201c21 and Over,\u201d it is losing 347 theaters, but it might have leveled out enough to maintain about 60% of its weekend two profit, which would leave it with another $3 million.<\/p>\n

With \u201cEscape From Planet Earth\u201d waving goodbye to 338 theaters, \u201cSafe Haven\u201d and \u201cSilver Linings Playbook\u201d are due to round out the top ten, but will likely swap places, \u201cSafe Haven\u201d only securing $2 million while \u201cSilver Linings\u201d takes $2.2 million.<\/p>\n
