MTV<\/em> reports that Johnny Depp’s production company, Infinitum-Nihil, is closer to the production of a film adaptation of ’60s TV show “Dark Shadows”.<\/p>\n

Sam Sarkar, Infinitum’s director of development, has confirmed that Depp is set to star, but could not say whether Depp’s friend and director Tim Burton is set to direct: ‘I can neither confirm nor deny that. But I know it\u2019s out there in the ether.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sarkar continued, saying, “All I can say is that one [a film version of the show] is very active. The studio will be making some announcements regarding it pretty soon. Very soon, probably.”<\/p>\n

“Dark Shadows” premiered on ABC in 1966 and was the first daytime soap opera to feature themes of the paranormal: gothic romance, ghost stories, vampires, zombies and time-travel. The series survived a whopping 1,225 episodes.<\/p>\n

The show will be hard to condense to a 2-hour movie, but Sarkar says that if the “Dark Shadows” film turns out to be a success, there\u2019s a good chance it will spawn a franchise: “Obviously, it’s a movie that can continue because there were so many things going on in ‘Dark Shadows.'”<\/p>\n

Depp’s upcoming films include Michael Mann’s Public Enemies<\/strong>, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus<\/strong>, Alice in Wonderland<\/strong> and animated film Rango<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
