This will be a busy weekend at the box office, but, similar to last weekend, it\u2019ll only be filled with modest opening totals.<\/p>\n

\u201cKick-Ass 2\u201d is getting the widest release, but not by much and it also likely won\u2019t edge out the competition by much either. The first film opened with $19.8 million, but even having built up some franchise momentum since its April 2010 debut, the sequel will likely only begin its run with about $25 million. \u201cThe Butler\u201d is likely gunning for a \u201cThe Help\u201d-sized opening, but it\u2019s got no shot at matching that film\u2019s $10,278 per theater average. Should \u201cThe Butler\u201d take $6,000 per theater, it\u2019ll open with a total of $17 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cJobs\u201d is rocking quite a bit of intrigue, but that\u2019ll likely only get it the #7 spot on the top ten. If it posts a $3,000 per theater average, just a little more than \u201cTaking Woodstock\u201d during its opening weekend, \u201cJobs\u201d will come in with a total of $7 million. As for \u201cParanoia,\u201d big names like Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman, and Harrison Ford will get it some attention, but not enough to earn more than $10 million to start, similar to the January 2013 thriller that leaned on its famous faces, \u201cBroken City.\u201d<\/p>\n

After its mediocre opening, \u201cElysium\u201d could be in for a hefty weekend one to two hit. With both \u201cKick-Ass 2\u201d and \u201cParanoia\u201d dipping into its viewership, \u201cElysium\u201d will likely see its opening profits slashed in half and come in with about $13 million. \u201cWe\u2019re the Millers\u201d could have better luck considering there are no commercial comedies entering the competition. Should that one lose just 45%, it\u2019ll post another $14.5 million and take the #3 spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlanes\u201d has a good shot at holding strong, too, both because there\u2019s nothing family-friendly hitting theaters and also because the other animated films are all on their way out. If \u201cPlanes\u201d loses 45% of its opening profits, it\u2019ll take another $12 million to the bank. \u201cPercy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,\u201d on the other hand, could be in for a swift decline. If its weak opening gets chopped in half, it\u2019ll take just $7 million this time around and then likely fall even harder in weekend three when \u201cThe Mortal Instruments: City of Bones\u201d steals more of its audience.<\/p>\n

\u201c2 Guns\u201d is bound to take a big hit because it\u2019s losing 559 theaters, but fortunately, \u201cThe Smurfs 2\u201d is losing 959 more so it\u2019ll have no trouble securing the #8 spot. Should \u201c2 Guns\u201d drop 48% and \u201cThe Smurfs 2\u201d lose 53%, the former will take $6 million and the latter just $4 million.<\/p>\n
