Who\u2019s ready for yet another slow weekend at the box office? Even though \u201cRiddick\u201d is the only new wide release hitting theaters, its outlook still isn\u2019t good. It\u2019s been nearly a decade since \u201cThe Chronicles of Riddick\u201d hit theaters and almost 14 years since \u201cPitch Black,\u201d so the franchise factor will not come into play here. \u201cRiddick\u201d might wind up following \u201cPriest\u201d and kicking off its run with about $15 million.<\/p>\n

And now of course that leaves the rest of the top ten to the box office veterans. \u201cOne Direction: This Is Us\u201d is bound to see its opening profits slashed in half, at least, so \u201cThe Butler\u201d should have no trouble holding on to the #2 spot and \u201cWe\u2019re the Millers\u201d will likely stay at #3, too. Should \u201cThe Butler\u201d dip about 37%, it\u2019ll take $10 million for its fourth weekend out while \u201cWe\u2019re the Millers\u201d will probably drop 43% for a $7.5 million weekend five haul. <\/p>\n

Even though \u201cInstructions Not Included\u201d turned out to be a surprise hit, it\u2019s highly unlikely that it\u2019ll retain enough of its opening profits to trump \u201cThis Is Us,\u201d too. Should the One Direction movie take a 60% hit – which is incredibly generous considering \u201cJonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience\u201d fell a whopping 77.4% moving from weekend one to two – it\u2019ll take $6.5 million for its second weekend out. As for \u201cInstructions Not Included,\u201d even though it blew last weekend\u2019s predictions away, I\u2019m still betting against it. Should that $22,547 per theater average come down to $10,000, it\u2019ll take another $3.5 million to the bank.<\/p>\n

With no new family-friendly material on the way, \u201cPlanes\u201d should continue to enjoy minimal declines from weekend to weekend. Should it drop 25% moving into its fifth weekend out, it\u2019ll claim another $5.5 million and the 5th spot. \u201cElysium,\u201d on the other hand, could feel the effects of \u201cRiddick.\u201d If last weekend\u2019s minimal 7% holiday decline gets a boost and hits 45%, \u201cElysium\u201d will wrap weekend five with $3.5 million, probably coming in just behind \u201cInstructions Not Included.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Mortal Instruments: City of Bones\u201d and \u201cThe World\u2019s End\u201d should keep right in line, taking the 8th and 9th slots, respectively. If both \u201cThe Mortal Instruments\u201d and \u201cThe World\u2019s End\u201d take 42% hits again, the former will earn $3 million and the latter just less than that. And as for \u201cGetaway,\u201d its run will only get worse. Even though it doesn\u2019t really have very far to fall, it\u2019s highly unlikely it\u2019ll retain enough of its opening profits to top \u201cBlue Jasmine,\u201d which has a good shot at dropping just 25% and earning another $2.8 million. <\/p>\n
