The time has come. Another \u201cHunger Games\u201d movie is about to rock the box office, and probably even more so than the last. Even though \u201cThe Hunger Games\u201d opened unopposed on March 23, 2012 with $152.5 million, \u201cDelivery Man\u201d and what\u2019s left of \u201cThor\u201d shouldn\u2019t pose much of a threat. Plus, \u201cCatching Fire<\/strong>\u201d should get an added boost both from the incredible amount of hype, the impending holiday and the fact that it\u2019s already got a built-in audience. With over 4,100 theaters, there\u2019s a good chance \u201cCatching Fire\u201d could kick off its domestic run with $160 million.<\/p>\n

As for poor \u201cDelivery Man<\/strong>,\u201d it just doesn\u2019t have a shot. Not only is \u201cCatching Fire\u201d taking too big a chunk out of the box office, but \u201cDelivery Man\u201d hasn\u2019t had much of a promotional push and now it\u2019s getting slammed with poor reviews. Vince Vaughn won\u2019t even manage to match \u201cThe Internship\u2019s\u201d $17.3 million start with this one. \u201cDelivery Man\u201d will likely wind up more in line with a $13 million opening like \u201cThe Watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

With \u201cThor: The Dark<\/strong>\u201d world losing 128 theaters and \u201cThe Best Man Holiday<\/strong>\u201d gaining 17 after that surprisingly strong opening, those two could wind up swapping places. Should \u201cThor\u201d take a 50% hit and \u201cThe Best Man Holiday\u201d lose just 40%, \u201cThor\u201d will take the #3 spot with $18 million while \u201cThe Best Man Holiday\u201d comes in at #2 with just the slightest bit more.<\/p>\n

With \u201cFree Birds<\/strong>\u201d dropping 439 theaters, \u201cLast Vegas<\/strong>\u201d should have no trouble keeping on top. However, with \u201cThe Delivery Man\u201d entering the race, \u201cLast Vegas\u201d likely won\u2019t be able to repeat last weekend\u2019s exceptionally minimal 23.5% drop. Should that number creep up to about 35%, it\u2019ll post $5.5 million for its fourth weekend out. As for \u201cFree Birds,\u201d with that theater loss, it could be looking at a percent change closer to 40%, which would still let it take another $4.8 million to the bank.<\/p>\n

Fortunately \u201cBad Grandpa<\/strong>\u201d had a $1.5 million lead on \u201cGravity<\/strong>\u201d last weekend because even though \u201cGravity\u201d is waving goodbye to 715 locations, \u201cBad Grandpa\u201d is losing 565 theaters of its own. Should \u201cBad Grandpa\u201d take its biggest hit yet, possibly 45%, it\u2019ll post about $4 million for its fifth weekend out while \u201cGravity\u201d is poised to retain 65% of its weekend seven earnings for $3.9 million in weekend eight.<\/p>\n

Now the question is, can \u201cEnder\u2019s Game<\/strong>\u201d hold on strong enough to beat out \u201c12 Years a Slave<\/strong>\u201d for the ninth spot and considering the former is losing a whopping 1,201 theaters and the latter is gaining 63, it\u2019s highly unlikely. Should it dip 35% and take another $3 million, #9 will be an easy get for \u201c12 Years.\u201d Meanwhile, \u201cEnder\u201d better prey it manages to hold on to half of its weekend three earnings, because if it falls far enough below that $3 million mark, \u201cCaptain Phillips\u201d could steal that last spot.<\/p>\n
