We\u2019ve got a big one on the way. \u201cThe Lego Movie<\/strong>\u201d is due out in 3,775 theaters tomorrow and it\u2019s going to put each and every one of them to good use. It\u2019s an odd time for a new animated movie, but considering the franchise already has a well-established fan base, \u201cThe Lego Movie\u201d should manage to split the difference between \u201cThe Croods\u201d and \u201cDr. Seuss\u2019 The Lorax,\u201d and kick off its run with about $55 million.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, our other two wide releases could debut with disappointingly soft openings. Even though \u201cThe Monuments Men<\/strong>\u201d is getting over 3,000 theaters and has George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray and more on the roster, the promotional campaign has been nearly non-existent. It\u2019ll likely wind up coming in just behind 2011\u2019s \u201cThe Adjustment Bureau\u201d with about $18 million. And last up for the new releases is the latest young adult book-to-film adaptation, \u201cVampire Academy<\/strong>.\u201d The Weinstein Company has been pushing this one hard and fans of the source material are certainly eating it all up, but that begs the question, will the film appeal to a wide audience? It\u2019s unlikely, but that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean it\u2019ll fall in line with dismal openings like the ones for \u201cBeautiful Creatures\u201d and \u201cThe Host.\u201d \u201cVampire Academy\u201d might have a shot at securing an \u201cAbraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter\u201d-sized haul of about $16 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cRide Along<\/strong>\u201d has held strong thus far, but it\u2019s time for it to make its way out. It only dipped 48.7% making the move from weekend one to two and then just 43.5% moving through weekend three, but with three new wide releases entering the race, this could be the week that percent change shaves off half of its previous week\u2019s earnings. Should that be the case, \u201cRide Along\u201d will claim another $6 million, which will still be good enough for fourth place. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s a good thing \u201cFrozen<\/strong>\u201d squeezed in that sing-along release prior to \u201cThe Lego Movie\u2019s\u201d debut, because now that that one is poised to snag the big money, \u201cFrozen\u201d could finally start slipping. Should it wind up taking a 40% hit, it\u2019s biggest yet since moving from its first to second wide weekend out, it\u2019ll take just about $5.3 million. That might not sound like much, but it\u2019ll still be more than enough to keep on top of \u201cThat Awkward Moment<\/strong>.\u201d Even though the Zac Efron-starrer is only in its second weekend out and isn\u2019t facing any new direct competition, its lackluster debut and minimal $3,112 per theater average proves there\u2019s no interest, so, odds are, it could be facing a 45% hit, which would leave it with just about $4.8 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Nut Job<\/strong>\u201d has been enjoying a solid run, but it doesn\u2019t have the legs that \u201cFrozen\u201d does so could take a much bigger hit courtesy of \u201cThe Lego Movie.\u201d Should it wind up losing half of its weekend three profits, it\u2019ll only take $3.5 million and that won\u2019t be enough to keep on top of \u201cLone Survivor<\/strong>,\u201d which has the benefit of facing less direct competition. Should \u201cLone Survivor\u201d repeat last weekend\u2019s 45% dip, it\u2019ll secure the seventh spot with just under $4 million.<\/p>\n

Even though \u201cAmerican Hustle\u201d is staying strong, both \u201cJack Ryan: Shadow Recruit<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cLabor Day<\/strong>\u201d have enough of a lead to get one more weekend in the top ten. Lucky for \u201cLabor Day\u201d that \u201cJack Ryan\u201d is losing 768 theaters because that rock bottom $2,003 per theater average is not a good sign. Should \u201cLabor Day\u201d drop 45% and \u201cJack Ryan\u201d take a 50% hit, the former will still come in at #9 with about $2.8 million while the latter takes #10 with $2.7 million.<\/p>\n
