We\u2019ve got two holidays on the horizon, but an abundance of competition and lack of interest could keep all four newcomers from making enough to trump last weekend\u2019s big winner, \u201cThe Lego Movie<\/strong>.\u201d Considering there\u2019s no new animated competition and all of the very positive word of mouth, there\u2019s a good chance \u201cLego\u201d might maintain 50% of its opening profits, making $35 million for three days and $45 million for four days the numbers to beat.<\/p>\n

The ones that could come closest to doing just that are \u201cAbout Last Night<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cRobocop<\/strong>.\u201d Kevin Hart\u2019s been killing it lately and with \u201cRide Along\u201d making its way out, there\u2019s more than enough room for \u201cAbout Last Night\u201d to move right it. It won\u2019t come anywhere near \u201cRide Along\u2019s\u201d $41.5 million start, but \u201cAbout Last Night\u201d could certainly lock in about $19 million for three days and $25 million for four. \u201cRobocop\u201d is poised to come in just a bit higher. It isn\u2019t particularly Valentine\u2019s Day appropriate, but it\u2019s also the only new option for those who\u2019d rather not do a romance. Should it match last year\u2019s Valentine\u2019s Day actioner, \u201cA Good Day to Die Hard,\u201d \u201cRobocop\u201d could be heading towards a $24 million regular weekend start and $32 million for the full holiday run.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for \u201cEndless Love\u201d and \u201cWinter\u2019s Tale,\u201d here\u2019s where we\u2019ll get the divide that could let \u201cThe Monuments Men<\/strong>\u201d slip in. Should \u201cMonuments Men\u201d dip a little more than \u201cValkyrie\u201d and lose 40% of its opening profits, it\u2019ll post about $13 million for its second weekend out and $17 million for the holiday, and that should be good enough to steal #4 from \u201cWinter\u2019s Tale.\u201d \u201cEndless Love\u201d doesn\u2019t even have a shot.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinter\u2019s Tale<\/strong>\u201d is loaded with big name stars, but rock bottom reviews and an unappealing promotional push will undoubtedly entice some to steer clear. There\u2019s a good chance this could be \u201cBroken City\u201d all over again for Russell Crowe, making just $9 million over the course of three days and $11 million for four, after which it\u2019ll likely endure a fast fall. As for \u201cEndless Love<\/strong>,\u201d it\u2019ll be lucky to keep ahead of \u201cRide Along<\/strong>.\u201d Should \u201cRide Along\u201d end up with some \u201cAbout Last Night\u201d overflow, it might manage to hold on to 55% of its weekend four profits, which would give it $5 million for its fifth weekend out and $7 million for the full holiday. And then there\u2019s \u201cEndless Love,\u201d which could be on its way to a #8 debut with a similar opening to \u201cVampire Academy,\u201d a mere $4 million and then $5.5 million including the bonus day, which won\u2019t be good enough to overtake \u201cFrozen<\/strong>.\u201d \u201cFrozen\u201d won\u2019t be able to maintain last weekend\u2019s 23.1% dip, but a 30% drop will still leave it with $4.5 million for three days and then $6.5 million for four.<\/p>\n

As for last weekend\u2019s big bust, \u201cVampire Academy<\/strong>,\u201d at this point, the only thing that one\u2019s got going for it is the fact that \u201cLone Survivor<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cThat Awkward Moment\u201d are both losing theaters. Chances are, \u201cLone Survivor\u201d will take #9 with a 40% loss, $3.3 million weekend eight haul and $4.5 million for the holiday, but if \u201cVampire Academy\u201d manages to hold on to 70% of its measly opening profits and \u201cThat Awkward Moment\u201d plummets 50%, it could just barely steal #10 with about $2.7 million for three days and $3.5 million for four.<\/p>\n
