Robert Rodriguez sat down with Variety to talk about his upcoming plans, which include the re-launching of the “Predator” franchise for Fox, and co-directing a feature-length “Machete” film, based on the spoof spoiler from 2008’s “Grindhouse” project he did with Quentin Tarentino. <\/p>\n

Rodriguez is eyeing a June start date in Austin for “Machete,” a film that is financed and produced by Overnight Productions, with Danny Trejo starring as the title character.<\/p>\n

So far the official synopsis for “Machete” reads “Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.”
\nRodriguez wrote the script and will be directing alongside his long-time editor Ethan Maniquis. The film is being produced by Rodriguez, Aaron Kaufman, and Rick Schwartz of Overnight Productions. This will be the first non-studio movie that Rodriguez has made since “El Mariachi.”<\/p>\n

Beyond what Rodriguez has said about his attachment to it, no other information about the “Predator” reboot has been released. <\/p>\n
