The late James Gandolfini\u2019s concluding movie \u2018The Drop\u2019 is set to be released in US theaters late September – and the official trailer has now been released.<\/p>\n
It opens with the movie’s back story, narrating: \u201cIn Brooklyn money changes hands all the time, but it\u2019s not the kind of money you can deposit in the bank. But all that money needs to end up somewhere; they call it a drop bar. You just hide the entire city\u2019s dirty money in plain sight.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gandolfini plays the man who runs the \u2018drop bar\u2019- Cousin Marv- and the trailer reveals that he used to be the owner of the place until the neighbourhood changed, and just \u201cbeing tough\u201d wasn\u2019t enough to be feared and respected.<\/p>\n
When the bar is victim of a robbery, Cousin Marv and Bob Saginowski (played by Tom Hardy) are forced to find the stolen money which belongs to Brooklyn\u2019s meanest crooks.<\/p>\n
The movie is written by the author of \u2018Gone Baby Gone\u2019, \u2018Mystic River\u2019 and \u2018Shutter Island\u2019- Dennis Lehane. It is the final movie Gandolfini starred in before his sudden death in June 2013, after suffering from a heart attack, aged just 51.<\/p>\n
Gandolfini is, of course, most famous for his role in The Sopranos, where he played New Jersey based mafia boss Tony Soprano. As a result of the popularity of the hit TV show, \u2018The Drop\u2019 has been widely anticipated amongst Sopranos fans, who are desperate to catch the last glimpses of his acting career.<\/p>\n
In fact his legacy stretches so far that in order to honour his life, New Jersey renamed a stretch of Park Avenue \u201cJames Gandolfini Way\u201d.<\/p>\n
