Director Kenneth Branagh recently sat down with IGN to dish on “Thor”, the big-screen adaptation of the Marvel Comics character. He mentions that while no casting decisions have yet to be made still, pre-production is in full swing and shooting is scheduled to begin in January of 2010.<\/p>\n

Branagh also confirmed the rumor that his award-winning costar in the upcoming telepic “Wallander”, Tom Hiddleston, is in the running for a role in “Thor” He said; “Tom Hiddleston is a great actor and he, amongst a number of others, has been part of the group we’ve spoken to and all that’s still a work in progress.” <\/p>\n

Thor is a Marvel Comics superhero, created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby. The mythical Norse god of thunder, the character first appears in “Journey into Mystery” #83 in 1962. The Norse god cast down to Earth to learn humility, he has the human form of the crippled Dr. Donald Blake, who transforms into the hero when he strikes his walking cane into the ground. A founding member of Marvel’s premiere superhero team the Avengers, he is a staple of Marvel Comics. <\/p>\n

The “Thor” film, the subject of much casting speculation, has a scheduled release date of May 20th, 2011<\/p>\n
