What\u2019s a week without a slew of \u201cStar Wars\u201d and Marvel news to talk about? Not only do we have updates on the status of Marvel\u2019s search for a director for \u201cAnt-Man,\u201d but we\u2019ve also got some major updates on \u201cDoctor Strange,\u201d some big \u201cStar Wars: Episode VII\u201d casting news and more.<\/p>\n

Even though \u201cStar Wars\u201d and Marvel absolutely dominate this week\u2019s Movie News Cheat Sheet<\/B>, a couple of other hot projects did manage to steal some spots. Find out more below:<\/p>\n

1. \u201cAnt-Man\u201d Locks a New Director:<\/FONT><\/B> After losing Edgar Wright last minute and then getting passes from Adam McKay and Rawson Thurber, Marvel has finally locked someone to take on \u201cAnt-Man\u201d \u2013 \u201cBring It On\u201d and \u201cYes Man\u201d director, Peyton Reed. News of Reed\u2019s hiring also came with a new story synopsis: \u201cArmed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.\u201d The movie is apparently still on track for its scheduled July 17, 2015 release. 2. Mark Wahlberg & Will Ferrell Could Team Up for \u201cDaddy\u2019s Home:\u201d<\/FONT><\/B> Four years after the release of \u201cThe Other Guys,\u201d Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell could be coming back together. According to Deadline<\/a>, Paramount has the two in talks to take the lead roles in the Gary Sanchez-produced comedy, \u201cDaddy\u2019s Home.\u201d Sean Anders and John Morris are also in talks to direct with the film expected to go into production in the fall. Should the arrangement pan out, Ferrell will play a \u201cmild-mannered radio executive who strives to become the best stepdad ever to his wife\u2019s two children.\u201d However, when Wahlberg\u2019s \u201cfreewheeling, freeloading real father\u201d comes into the picture, Ferrell\u2019s character has to compete with him to win the affection of the kids.<\/p>\n

3. \u201cDoctor Strange\u201d Gets Director and Short List:<\/FONT><\/B> Shortly after Scott Derrickson took to Twitter<\/a> to announce he\u2019s directing \u201cDoctor Strange,\u201d Deadline<\/a> got a hold of the short list for the title role and both Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch are on it. There are others in contention, but if they\u2019re all of Hardy and Cumberbatch\u2019s caliber, the film should be in good shape. \u201cDoctor Strange\u201d is still without an official release date, but there has been speculation it could take that July 2016 slot Marvel reserved last summer.<\/p>\n

4. Emma Watson and Miles Teller May Take \u201cLa La Land:\u201d<\/FONT><\/B> After hitting it big with \u201cWhiplash\u201d at Sundance in January, Miles Teller and director Damien Chazelle could reunite fast with \u201cLa La Land.\u201d According to The Wrap<\/a>, both Teller and Emma Watson are in early talks to lead the film. Should their deals go through, Watson will play Mia, a lonely aspiring actress while Teller portrays Sebastian, a \u201ccocky yet charismatic jazz pianist.\u201d The two fall in love in Los Angeles, but, \u201cthe city that brought them together may tear them apart, as they soon discover that balancing love and art in such a cutthroat climate isn’t easy.\u201d<\/p>\n

5. Live-Action \u201cBeauty and the Beast\u201d in the Works:<\/FONT><\/B> After scoring nearly $70 million opening weekend, it\u2019s no surprise that Disney is quickly moving forward with another fairy-tale adaptation. As reported by Variety<\/a>, Bill Condon will direct a live-action rendition of \u201cBeauty and the Beast\u201d with Evan Spiliotopoulos writing the script.<\/p>\n

6. \u201cInsurgent\u201d Gets Daniel Dae Kim & Naomi Watts:<\/FONT><\/B> Not that the \u201cDivergent\u201d sequel needs any more star power after Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort demolished the box office this weekend with \u201cThe Fault in Our Stars,\u201d but Summit is still loading up the \u201cInsurgent\u201d roster with top talent. According to Variety<\/a>, Daniel Dae Kim is officially on board as Jack Kang, the leader of Candor, and THR<\/a> is reporting that Naomi Watts is locked to join the cast too as Evelyn, the leader of the Factionless.<\/p>\n

7. Josh Trank to Direct a \u201cStar Wars\u201d Spinoff Film:<\/FONT><\/B> We\u2019ve got another \u201cStar Wars\u201d spinoff movie director! Just last month we found out Gareth Edwards will take one of the planned \u201cStar Wars\u201d standalone films and now Lucasfilm just announced<\/a> that \u201cChronicle\u201d Josh Trank will helm another. Trank stated, \u201cThe magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n

8. Lupita Nyong\u2019o & Gwendoline Christie Join \u201cStar Wars: Episode VII:\u201d<\/FONT><\/B> We\u2019ve already got John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker, but Lucasfilm just announced<\/a> that two more big names are joining the list \u2013 Lupita Nyong\u2019o and Gwendoline Christie. \u201cStar Wars: Episode VII\u201d is currently in production and heading towards a December 18, 2015 release date.<\/p>\n

9. Trailers: \u201cHercules,\u201d \u201cThe Giver,\u201d \u201cStep Up All In:\u201d<\/FONT><\/B> We got not one, but two brand new trailers for Dwayne Johnson\u2019s \u201cHercules\u201d this week. Both are filled with swords, sandals and enormous muscles, but the international one<\/a> boasts a far more effective tone and pace. We\u2019ve also got a new trailer for the adaptation of \u201cThe Giver<\/a>\u201d and while it does finally honor the black-and-white concept in the book, the futuristic spin on the source material will undoubtedly throw some for a loop. \u201cStep Up All In<\/a>\u201d also released its very first full trailer and while it does look like more of the same, the franchise reunion spin makes it particularly appealing.<\/p>\n

10. Box Office:<\/FONT><\/B> \u201cThe Fault in Our Stars\u201d didn\u2019t just win the weekend. It absolutely crushed the competition. Even though a young adult cancer romance might not sound like summer blockbuster fare, the film still went on to score $48 million its opening weekend. Thanks to a modest 50.6% drop and a disappointing start for \u201cEdge of Tomorrow,\u201d \u201cMaleficent\u201d managed to hold on to the #2 spot with a $34.3 million weekend two total. \u201cEdge of Tomorrow\u201d didn\u2019t perform poorly per se, but, odds are, Warner Bros. was expecting to take in much more than $28.8 million to start. The fourth spot went to \u201cX-Men: Days of Future Past\u201d which took $15.2 million after suffering a 53.4% hit while \u201cA Million Ways to Die in the West\u201d came in at #5 with $7.3 million after dipping nearly 57%.
