Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures have hired Evan Daugherty to write the latest draft of “Grayskull”, the a big-screen take on the classic “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” franchise of toys and cartoons. John Stevenson (“Kung Fu Panda”) is attached to direct. A previous draft was written by Justin Marks. <\/p>\n

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is hoping to re-imagine the magical fantasy-based franchise as a “gritty fantasy” and reimagine Prince Adam, aka He-Man, as a soldier who finds himself in the otherworldly realm of Eternia. There, he ends up finding his destiny and fighting the warlord Skeletor, who has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating the world of magic.<\/p>\n

The Mattel “Masters of the Universe” toy line first appeared in 1981, and has since spawned mutliple toys, three animated series, and even a previous live-action movie starring Dolf Lungren. In the world of Eternia, Prince Adam raises his sword and says “By the power of Grayskull…I have the power!”, transforming into the super-strong warrior hero, He-Man. He-Man and the Masters defend Eternia and the magical fortress of Castle Grayskull from the villainous Skeletor and his minions, who want the power of Grayskull for themselves. <\/p>\n
