American audiences are invited into the heart of a lavish 19th century bordello, through an exclusive clip from the first season of the Globes de Cristal Award-nominated drama show, ‘Maison Close.’ The video from the stylized French thriller series, titled ‘Trapped in Paradise,’ explores desire and power, and also re-imagines age-old themes in revolution ways.<\/p>\n
The clip has been released in anticipation of the Canal Plus+ Series drama’s first season being distributed on home entertainment for the first time in the U.S. Music Box Films will distribute ‘Maison Close: Season One’ on February 10 on DVD, which will be sold on such platforms as Amazon<\/a>. The show’s first season will also be available on Blu-ray and such VOD platforms as iTunes, Vudu, YouTube and Google Play. The DVD and Blu-ray sets include all eight unrated and uncut 55-minute episodes from the series’ first acclaimed season, as well as a collector’s book featuring photos and essays.<\/p>\n ‘Maison Close’ was produced by Jacques Ouaniche at Noe Productions International for Canal Plus+. The show is the newest addition to Music Box’s slate of cinema-quality foreign television acquisitions. The slate also features the distributor’s last three International Emmy Award-winning releases for Best TV Movie\/Miniseries or Series, including ‘Generation War’ in 2014, ‘The Returned’ in 2013 and ‘Millennium’ in 2011.<\/p>\n Music Box Films has released the following synopsis for Season One of ‘Maison Close’:<\/p>\n Set in Paris in 1871, right after the suppression of la Commune, a workers’ revolutionary movement that briefly took power, ‘Maison Close’ follows a cast of gorgeous women trapped by circumstances beyond their control in the luxury brothel, Paradise. Considered a first class closed house reserved for aristocratic or bourgeois clientele, and noted for strange and refined practices during a time when prostitution was legalized, Paradise is populated by a fascinating cast of characters, each of whom struggles to find escape and solace in their own way.<\/p>\n Hortense (Val\u00e9rie Karsenti) is the manipulative and, in turn, manipulated mistress of the Paradise who runs her business with iron hand. V\u00e9ra (Anne Charrier), the star of the bordello, is a beautiful courtesan in her thirties whose career is nearing its end.
