Everyone knows about Sylvester Stallone\u2019s retired boxing character, who returns to the scene of hand-to-hand combat. But do you know who inspired the story about the fictional punching legend? The answer is Chuck Wepner and \u2018The Bleeder\u2019 is the biographical sports drama about his life.<\/p>\n<p>Philippe Falardeau tells the true-life story of Wepner (Liev Schreiber), a liquor salesman from New Jersey, who went 15 rounds in the stunning 1975 heavyweight world championship against the greatest boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali (Pooch Hall). In his ten years as a boxer, Wepner endured eight broken noses, 14 losses, two knockouts, a total of 313 stitches, and ultimately inspired the billion-dollar Rocky franchise. But his toughest fights were outside the ring \u2013 failing his marriage with Phylis (Elisabeth Moss), living an epic life of booze, drugs, wild women, incredible highs, extraordinary lows and finally meeting his life companion Linda (Naomi Watts).<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Bleeder\u2019<b> <\/b>delves into the way Wepner was trying to deal with sudden fame as the ultimate underdog; as it is about that epic fight 40 years ago when a journeyman brawler, against all odds, shocked the world. As a bi-lingual journalist (English and Italian), who is also fluent in French and Spanish, she is a member of the Foreign Press Association in New York, the Women Film Critics Circle in New York, the Italian Association of Journalists in Milan and the Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean.
