The Tribeca Film Festival is continuing its cherished tradition<\/strong> of featuring relatable movies that are sure to make viewers question their own life paths and ponder their future with its upcoming slate. This spring’s 16th annual edition of the New York City-based festival, which is scheduled to run between April 19-30, 2017, will likely once again leave audiences considering their emotions with such films as ‘Devil’s Gate<\/strong>‘ and ‘The Clapper<\/strong>.’<\/p>\n

‘This Is Us’ actor Milo Ventimiglia<\/strong> takes on a different role in the suspense thriller, ‘Devil’s Gate.’ Unlike the caring father and husband he plays on his hit NBC drama series, in the movie the actor portrays Jackson Pritchard, an aloof man who’s fighting back against a troubled past. His actions are called into question even further after his son and wife go missing.<\/p>\n

In addition to Ventimiglia, ‘Devil’s Gate’ also stars Amanda Schull<\/a>, Shawn Ashmore, and Bridget Regan. The drama also features Jonathan Frakes in his return to acting.<\/p>\n

The thriller marks the directorial debut of Clay Staub<\/strong>, who’s also known for his visual effects work. The first-time feature film helmer served as the 2nd Unit Director on several of Zack Snyder’s acclaimed movies, including the 2004 horror remake, ‘Dawn of the Dead,’ as well as on the mega-blockbuster ‘300.’<\/p>\n

The following synopsis has been released for ‘Devil’s Gate,’ which Staub co-wrote with Peter Aperlo:<\/p>\n

Maria Pritchard (Regan) and her son are missing. Maria’s husband, Jackson (Ventimiglia), a taciturn man with a troubled past, is not returning calls. An FBI Agent (Schull) and Police Deputy (Ashmore) sent to investigate find more than they bargained for when they arrive at the family’s remote farm outside Devil’s Gate, North Dakota. As night falls and they become trapped in that desolate location, the law enforcement officers must either join forces with an unstable man they suspect of misdeeds or fall victim to the same demons that beset him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Writer-director Dito Montiel<\/a> is unveiling his new dramedy, ‘The Clapper,’ which is based on his 2007 book, ‘Eddie Krumble Is The Clapper,’ at the Tribeca Film Festival this year. The movie adaptation features Ed Helms<\/strong>, Amanda Seyfried<\/a>, Tracy Morgan, Russell Peters, PJ Byrne, Brenda Vaccaro, Leah Remini, Alan Thicke and Adam Levine.<\/p>\n

The story, which is a passion project for Montiel<\/a>, focuses on people who are living a simple and content life before unexpected circumstances thrust them into Hollywood’s limelight. The following synopsis has been released for ‘The Clapper’:<\/p>\n

Eddie (Helms) and his friend Chris (Morgan) clap for a living as audience members on infomercials. They live a simple and content life, scraping by as the glitzy circus of Hollywood show-biz swirls around them. Eddie’s only real excitement is his romance with local gas station attendant, Judy (Seyfried<\/a>), a beacon of light in a sea of monotony.<\/p>\n

But soon, Eddie’s life is turned upside down when talk-show host Jayme Stillerman (Peters) takes an interest in Eddie, and launches a citywide media craze to uncover his true identity. The newfound fame costs him his job and Judy, who disappears without a trace. With no other choice, Eddie embarks into the world of late-night TV on a quest to hunt down his lost love.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

‘Devil’s Gate’ is being sold by CAA, and ‘The Clapper’ by UTA and WME, at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. Both movies are set to have their World Premieres during the festival; the suspense thriller will debut during the Midnighter’s section, while the dramedy will screen during the Spotlight Narrative section.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
