Led by singer\/songwriter <\/span><b>Arden Leigh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the new release explores what it means to heal after a series terrible relationships, while also what it means to survive from sexual assault during the #MeToo movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EP starts off with its title track with hard hitting beats and spellbinding lyrics that feels more like engaging storytelling than something traditional hard Rock and Roll, while also having a catchy and toe-tapping sensibility that will make you sing-along at a moment\u2019s notice with lyric like, \u201cThey&#8217;re out there watching your every move\/I know that I&#8217;ve got a lot to prove \/I&#8217;ll break my heart before I tell\/Where do you go when you&#8217;re getting yours\/Cuz we both know you&#8217;ve been burned before\/So I&#8217;ll walk your seven gates of hell.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mWpF3svMRps?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their sound is actually quite impressive, as <\/span><b>Leigh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has a very distinctive voice and knack for bright personality and alluring style. It reminds me of a mix between early <\/span><b>Madonna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Evanescence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which feels like equal parts seduction and hard-edged Rock and Roll. The song \u201c<\/span><b>Another Year of Rain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d points to the band\u2019s interest in magic and witchcraft. The EP even comes with a digital booklet of spells and rituals that supposedly help those who need healing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The release features five-songs in total, which feels like an extension of their debut release <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yCZx0mRQcX0&amp;list=PLhqgmZrT00IJUnYTtfCZmyu4eCoTXd0Ag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i>Break Me In<\/i><\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and captures <\/span><b>Arden and the Wolves\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> evolving sound and persona. There\u2019s even a cover of a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OfIfzVf8t6E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ramones<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> song \u201c<\/span><b>Poison Heart<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d that\u2019s perfectly fitting for the band\u2019s style. The song is about combating the evils of the world when it seems like the deck is stacked against those who are trying to do good. <\/span><b>Leigh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compares it to the budding #MeToo movement that\u2019s bringing awareness to sexual assault victims and the nasty power dynamic that puts toxic men in positions of power. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Arden and the Wolves\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> version is suited for this generation of feminism with <\/span><b>Leigh\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> striking vocals during the song\u2019s chorus, \u201cWell, I just want to walk right out of this world\/Cause everybody has a poison heart\/I just want to walk right out of this world\/Cause everybody has a poison heart.\u201d It seems more like a call to arms for those who want to see real change in this world instead of merely lip service and keeping the status quo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b><i>Who Can You Trust<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> EP is quite good and I\u2019m seriously interested in listening to more from <\/span><b>Arden and the Wolves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It seems like there was a lot of thought and care behind putting together the various elements of the release, while also creates a theme of healing and trying to gain a better sense of moving on during troubled times.
