The brazen and steady percussion beats of <\/span><b>Bala Skandan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the Mridangam and Konnakkol blends very well with the classical violin work from <\/span><b>Arun Ramamurthy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Trina Basu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On top of <\/span><b>Dave Eggar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Amali Premawardhana\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> magnificent cello work with additional percussion from <\/span><b>Nitin Mitta<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the Tabla, <\/span><b>Akshara Music Ensemble<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comes together to perfectly weave world music, along with <\/span><b>Jay Gandhi\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> woodwind work with the Bansuri. <\/span><b><i>In Time<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a great example of how different styles and ethnic instrumentation can unite different peoples from all over the map.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The album starts off with \u201c<\/span><b>Mind The Gap<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d a collaboration that builds a steady rhythm before it starts to get a bit more complex. Just at its peak, the string section comes it to make the sound more dynamic and full. It\u2019s also very playful with its stops and starts, as you can clearly hear why it\u2019s called \u201c<\/span><b>Mind The Gap<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d The signature track on the album is \u201c<\/span><b>Mohana Blues<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d which won \u201cBest World Traditional Song\u201d at the 13th Annual Independent Music Awards. The track infuse traditional a classical sound with heightened and elegant South Indian chants, while embracing the beauty of the group\u2019s violins and cellos.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bcY5A0rQmeQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>Opus in 5<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d takes advantage of the group\u2019s South Indian roots because it makes the Bansuri its centerpiece with a rich and distinct sound of the subcontinent. \u201c<\/span><b>Shadjam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d marches on with a strong percussive sound and highlighted by the Bansuri from <\/span><b>Gandhi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and added Konnakkol sound from <\/span><b>Skandan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There\u2019s a really good sense of energy and excitement before <\/span><b><i>In Time<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comes to a close.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the album is very short, it only features five tracks, it\u2019s full of memorable and deep tones that contribute to its overall pleasure and experience. <\/span><b><i>In Time<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a good example and introduction of World Music to someone who might not be too familiar with the genre or maybe just intimidated with non-Western cultures and sounds.
