The pair blends together Brit Pop style with a Hip Hop swagger as a seemingly revival of the genre from the early 2000s. Acts like <\/span><b>The Streets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Gorillaz<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Handsome Boy Modeling School<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> effortlessly combined those different sounds into something exciting, while <\/span><b>Rebel ACA &amp; French Monkey Wrench<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are doing it today for a new generation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>John Wayne<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d is the newest single from the duo\u2019s debut album <\/span><b><i>Sunday&#8217;s Cool<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and it tackles our dependence of everyday technology on smartphones and laptops, while questioning notions of masculinity in a modern era. The single is deeply layered lyrically, as well as musically, as it takes a listener on a journey of technology and social media with speedy and concise wordplay and rhymes.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wqUT1GnByLQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the single has something on its mind, I can\u2019t help but reminded of the <\/span><b>Gorillaz\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> song \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UclCCFNG9q4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Clint Eastwood<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d Both songs share the same bouncy tones and sounds with a memorable and catchy hook in their respective choruses. Even the titles share the same type of masculinity in pop culture and movies in the 20th century. <\/span><b>Rebel ACA &amp; French Monkey Wrench<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> clearly have their influences on their sleeves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The music video is a visual explosion of the digital journey through modern technology that feels like a kaleidoscope of words and a collage of images and pop art. The irony of \u201c<\/span><b>John Wayne<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d is that it seems to be an indictment of social media and how it really hinders real human interaction, when the song and music video were created, produced, released, and viewed through the very same methods the song is railing against. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I mean, I watched the music video on YouTube and I listened to the single on Soundcloud from the comfort of my own apartment on my iPhone X. Hell, I\u2019m writing this article on Google Docs on my Macbook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Song: A-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>John Wayne<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d is the follow up single to \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/3AU2K57upsXVrxZfS05SCj?si=4AUHIlM8TbKXly3YUB_cgw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>African James Bond<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d from <\/span><b>Rebel ACA &amp; French Monkey Wrench<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> debut album <\/span><b><i>Sunday Cool<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which drops on March 29.
