Anatomy by Pale Blue Dot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Hailing from Charlottesville, Virginia, <\/span>Pale Blue Dot<\/b> emerged as an art collective of musicians centered around the unique songwriting of lead singer <\/span>Tony LaRocco<\/b>. With deep influences of 1990s alternative rock music from the likes of <\/span>Foo Fighters<\/b>, <\/span>Pearl Jam<\/b>, and <\/span>Stone Temple Pilots<\/b>, <\/span>Pale Blue Dot\u2019s<\/b> new album <\/span>Anatomy<\/i><\/b> captures that era with something more modern and thoughtful. The new album seems to have a lot on its mind and the band has the talent to express it with a collection of rock out songs. <\/span><\/p>\n

Anatomy<\/i><\/b> opens with \u201c<\/span>I Know<\/b>,\u201d a bouncy and catchy tune that keeps walking along with its toe-tapping bassline from bassist <\/span>Drew Pompano<\/b>. Meanwhile, while <\/span>Tony LaRocco\u2019s<\/b> voice \u00a0is a bit off putting, it then completely fits when you get used to the sound. \u201c<\/span>Only Love<\/b>\u201d comes next and it sounds like it\u2019s influenced by<\/span> The Cure\u2019s<\/b> \u201c<\/span>In Between Days<\/b>\u201d with its smooth and lyrical jounce.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Stained Glass Window<\/b>\u201d is a tuneful pop melody with a sharp and inspirational angle without being sappy, while \u201c<\/span>Dust And Light<\/b>\u201d is a delightful ballad with a bright sound that feels retro and nostalgic. The track \u201c<\/span>Yesterday’s News<\/b>\u201d is a standstill song that feels like the best of <\/span>Pearl Jam<\/b> and <\/span>Aimee Mann<\/b> put together, and \u201c<\/span>Canyons<\/b>\u201d has some nice guitar work from <\/span>Peter Balogh<\/b> and smooth melody and vocals from <\/span>LaRocco<\/b>. It also features proficient drum work from <\/span>Darby Wooten<\/b>. It\u2019s a nice builder.<\/span><\/p>\n

The song \u201c<\/span>Suitcase<\/b>\u201d is an all-out rock song that seems influenced by classic indie rock from the mid-90s, while being completely spiritual and honest, as the track \u201c<\/span>The Harlot And A Gambler<\/b>\u201d is a no-nonsense ballad that has a complex sound and instrumentation with a hypnotic and transformative emotional rawness. <\/span>Anatomy<\/i><\/b> finishes off with \u201c<\/span>Lo And Behold<\/b>,\u201d which is a very pleasant way to end an album. It feels like <\/span>Pale Blue Dot<\/b> is simply wishing the listener a fond farewell and goodbye and a \u201chope to see you soon.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Anatomy<\/i><\/b> has good replay value with a collection of thoughtful songs that feel of a piece. While <\/span>Tony LaRocco\u2019s<\/b> vocals takes a bit to get used to, you couldn\u2019t possibly wonder what these songs would sound like without him. There\u2019s a great sense of honesty and raw emotions that feels relatable and true to life. <\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s no coincidence that this album comes out almost a year after the violent gathering of white nationalists in <\/span>Pale Blue Dot\u2019s<\/b> hometown of Charlottesville. It almost seems like a response to the tragedy and an indictment of the reemergence of white supremacy as a whole in the United States. There is no such thing as \u201cfine people\u201d who are also white nationalists. <\/span><\/p>\n
