The epic HBO series, which ended its eight-year run in May, was rewarded with 32 nominations \u2013 the most EVER for a show in a single season. It helped put the cable network back at the top of the TV heap with 137 total nominations<\/a>, above that pesky streaming platform Netflix, which \u201conly\u201d garnered 117 nominations.<\/p>\n

The treasure trove of nominations for \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d will translate to multiple prop bets on Bovada sportsbook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Of course, what\u2019s amusing about the noms motherlode, which hits every major discipline from acting to directing, casting to makeup, and sound mixing to visual effects, is that many fans abhorred the final season. More 1.5 million viewers signed a petition demanding a do-over.<\/p>\n

From the big battle that was too dark to see, the sudden and fatal vulnerability of the mighty dragons, the easy dispatch of The Night King (no offense, Arya), and what some viewers thought was the complete abandonment of character development in the haste to wrap the series. Oh, and don\u2019t forget: \u201cAnd the Emmy for best placement of a modern coffee to-go cup in an ancient time period goes too ….\u201d<\/p>\n

OK, we won\u2019t belabor it, much. The TV Academy obviously wants to send off the revered series in style and you can expect several additions to the 47 Emmys it\u2019s already won when the award show airs on Sept. 22 on FOX. The academy is known for giving actors or series an Emmy in its final season \u2013 especially if it\u2019s been overlooked for years. Case in point, John Hamm winning as Best Actor for portraying Don Draper in the final season of \u201cMad Men.\u201d<\/p>\n

The difference here, of course, is that \u201cGOT\u201d hasn\u2019t been overlooked which only fuels fans and critics confusion.<\/p>\n

Bottom line, it might be easiest to go with the most obvious. A published report of a critics\u2019 roundtable discussing the overall nominations lamented in inclusion of some shows and the exclusion of others. Comedy \u201cSchitt\u2019s Creek\u201d on PopTV received four nominations which perplexed The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s Tim Goodman. \u201c\u2026 I\u2019d love to see the pending police investigation on the Pop thing with \u2018Schitt\u2019s Creek.\u2019 That just doesn\u2019t happen organically, sorry.\u201d OUCH!<\/p>\n

Goodman then went on to mention shows he though should have been nominated and frankly, I hadn\u2019t heard of most of them: \u201cBetter Things,\u201d \u201cRamy,\u201d \u201cBaskets,\u201d \u201cShrill,\u201d \u201cKidding,\u201d and \u201cPEN15.\u201d OK, we\u2019ve heard of \u201cBaskets\u201d and we still haven\u2019t watched it.<\/p>\n

And that might be part of the issue \u2013 there\u2019s too much TV!! Many actors or shows considered shoo-ins were left out.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s notable acting snubs: Tracee Ellis Ross (\u201cBlackish\u201d), Allison Janney (\u201cMom\u201d), Julia Roberts (\u201cHomeland\u201d), Ian McShane (\u201cDeadwood: The Movie\u201d), Richard Madden (\u201cBodyguard\u201d), MJ Rodriguez (\u201cPose\u201d), Kieran Culkin (\u201cSuccession\u201d), Rhea Seehorn (\u201cBetter Call Saul\u201d), and Alex Baldwin (\u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d), though we could have gone either way on that last one.<\/p>\n

Best Show snubs include \u201cReal Time with Bill Maher,\u201d \u201cTracey Ullman\u2019s Show,\u201d \u201cCatch 22,\u201d \u201cManiac,\u201d \u201cGlow,\u201d and \u201cThe Kominsky Method.\u201d On the flip side, they did get a lot right, most notably \u2013 \u201cRuPaul\u2019s Drag Race\u201d with 14 nominations. Also, on the right side of show picks: \u201cMarvelous Mrs. Maisel\u201d (20 nominations), \u201cChernobyl\u201d (19), \u201cWhen They See Us\u201d (16), \u201cFosse\/Verdon\u201d (17), \u201cBarry\u201d (17), and \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d (18).<\/p>\n

On the acting side we certainly appreciated these choices in an obviously competitive year: Billy Porter (\u201cPose\u201d), Milo Ventimiglia (\u201cThis is Us\u201d), Jharrel Jerome (\u201cWhen They See Us\u201d), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (\u201cFleabag\u201d), Natasha Lyonne (\u201cRussian Doll\u201d), Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh (\u201cKilling Eve\u201d), Aunjanue Ellis and Niecy Nash (\u201cWhen They See Us\u201d), Michael K. Williams and John Leguizamo (\u201cWhen They See Us\u201d) and Gwendoline Christie (\u201cGame of Thrones\u201d).<\/p>\n

We also were very happy to see Adam Sandler get a nod for his return to \u201cSaturday Night Live,\u201d which ended with his poignant song tribute to Chris Farley<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
