An article titled &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180429063152\/http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/sports\/i-team\/babe-ruthless-rod-shady-lady-article-1.1796578\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alex Rodriguez was set to quit baseball until former drug mole and ex-convict Desiree Perez convinced the Yankees slugger to fight MLB over PED suspension<\/a><\/strong>.&#8221; <strong>The Wayback Machine<\/strong> shows the article was available until <strong>October 2024<\/strong>, when it <strong>mysteriously disappeared<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There is <strong>new found interest<\/strong> in<strong> Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez&#8217;s<\/strong> <strong>&#8220;Shady Lady&#8221;<\/strong> past<strong>, <\/strong>since a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shockya.com\/news\/2025\/06\/15\/jay-zs-roc-nation-and-its-shady-business-entertainment-company-or-criminal-syndicate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>newly filed federal lawsuit<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0against her and <strong>Jay-Z&#8217;s Roc Nation <\/strong>has been making waves worldwide. The club manager, with close ties to Beyonce and Jay Z, has a &#8216;lot of power&#8217; inside rap mogul&#8217;s Roc Nation Sports<\/h3>\n<div id=\"a-byline\">BY Teri Thompson, Bill Madden, Michael O&#8217;keeffe, Christian Red, Nathaniel Vinton<\/div>\n<div id=\"a-credits\">NEW YORK DAILY NEWS<\/div>\n<div id=\"a-date-updated\">Updated: Sunday, May 18, 2014, 4:44 PM<\/div>\n<h2><b>CAUGHT WITH 35 KILOS<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Perez<\/strong> was a 26-year-old mother of young children in 1994 when she was arrested in <strong>New York<\/strong> for possession with intent to distribute <strong>35 kilograms of cocaine<\/strong>, according to court records reviewed by<strong> The News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Federal authorities<\/strong> charged <strong>she was part of a drug conspiracy<\/strong> stretching from<strong> New York to Florida to Puerto Rico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>She and co-defendant Amaury Lopez <strong>faced at least 10 years in prison<\/strong> (Lopez was supposedly one of at least three men to marry Perez since the late 1980s).<\/p>\n<p>But Perez cooperated; in return for <strong>telling the DEA everything<\/strong> \u2014 and \u201cputting herself at substantial risk,\u201d as one prosecutor put it \u2014 she was sentenced to 30 months in a military-style boot camp program in 1995.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Many of the records in Perez\u2019s case were sealed<\/strong> soon after her arrest. But one transcript from a June 11, 1996, court hearing obtained by The News shows the feds were pleased with their<strong> star mole<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant has really worked closely with these agents,\u201d assistant <strong>U.S. Attorney Laurence Bardfeld<\/strong> told a judge that day, arguing to keep <strong>Perez<\/strong> out of jail.<\/p>\n<p>Miami-based defense attorney Alan Ross told the judge that his client <strong>\u201cwore a wire on no less than the four or five occasions when she\u2019s been down there in Puerto Rico.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think the court knows from its experience that you just can\u2019t do anything more dangerous than wear a wire and go into an undercover meeting in Puerto Rico with a known violator, one whose (sic) suspected of \u2014 or being investigated for \u2014 a murder case down there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The transcript describes how a mutual \u201cregard and respect\u201d developed between Perez and the DEA special agents she worked with to<strong> bust Colombians moving cocaine shipments of 50 to 100 kilograms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has gone the extra mile,\u201d said Ross, adding that he believed the defendant was \u201cfully rehabilitated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perez was released that July and placed on five years of supervised release. She began working at <strong>nightspots in Miami Beach<\/strong> and was scheduled to meet her probation officer at one of them, <strong>Club Onyx<\/strong>, when <strong>she skipped town without notice in early August 1997<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The fugitive resurfaced nine month later in Brooklyn, where <strong>she was arrested on March 5, 1998<\/strong>. <strong>Perez was charged with grand larceny, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a firearm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Her probation was revoked and she was sentenced to nine months in prison and three years of supervised release.<\/p>\n<p>A DEA special agent from the case, contacted by The News, declined comment.<\/p>\n<p>But lawyer Ross said he was not surprised by Perez\u2019s career turnaround.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is a stunning and bright woman, a very smart lady,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Perez appears to have been in business with Jay Z since at least 2002<\/strong>, helping the rapper run his <strong>40\/40 Club in Las Vegas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That year, the club\u2019s liquor license application listed Desiree Perez\u2019s father, Epifiano Gonzalez of the Bronx, as president, director and 50% stockholder in the club.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jay Z<\/strong>, whose real name is Shawn Carter, <strong>owned the other half<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>She was ultimately joined there by her current husband, <strong>Juan \u201cOG\u201d Perez<\/strong>, the <strong>president of Roc Nation Sports<\/strong> and another <strong>partner in the sports bar chain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCatch me at the X with OG at a Yankee game\/I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can,\u201d Jay Z rapped in his hit \u201cEmpire State of Mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>By 2003, the Perezes were the operators of the 40\/40 Club on 25th St. in Manhattan<\/strong>, a trendy club named for the exclusive group of players, including <strong>Rodriguez<\/strong>, who\u2019ve achieved the rare feat of hitting 40 home runs and stealing 40 bases in a single season.<\/p>\n<p>In 2003, Perez boasted to The New York Times that \u201cstars like Alex Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers often come by after games in the New York area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Perez<\/strong> soon became one of the <strong>most trusted members of Jay Z\u2019s entourage<\/strong>. She is a part of international pop star <strong>Rihanna\u2019s management team<\/strong> and has been photographed partying with <strong>Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But to make Roc Nation a true empire, the organization needed to expand beyond music.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, to great fanfare,<strong> Jay Z formed Roc Nation Sports<\/strong> and began representing pro athletes. Baseball insiders say Perez was an important voice in the business from the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>Former Florida Panthers executive Michael Yormark acknowledged the role Perez plays when he left the NHL team and joined Roc Nation Sports in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honored and humbled to be joining Jay Z\u2019s Roc Nation Sports as President and Chief Strategy Officer,\u201d Yormark said. \u201cI am thrilled to join an exciting, innovative organization led by <strong>Desiree<\/strong> and<strong> Juan Perez<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>BIG ROLE IN CANO CONTRACT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Biogenesis showdown coincided with <strong>Roc Nation\u2019s<\/strong> ballyhooed agency launch. While Rodriguez was not an official client, his friend and teammate Robinson Cano was.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desiree Perez<\/strong> played a large role, along with<strong> Jay Z<\/strong> and her husband, in the negotiations that landed Cano his $240 million contract with the Seattle Mariners.<\/p>\n<p>A December 2013 story on MyNorthwest.com suggested Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik spent as much time wooing the <strong>Roc Nation<\/strong> principals as he did Cano.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe took them down into the locker room to give them a tour of the field, and we had lockers set up for them. There was Felix Hernandez, Robinson Cano,<strong> (Roc Nation president) Juan Perez, (Roc Nation\u2019s) Desiree Perez, Jay Z, the whole group<\/strong>,\u201d Zduriencik said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty neat, I mean, it really was. And then we went upstairs and we talked about $240 million.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Rodriguez<\/strong> <strong>saga<\/strong> demonstrates how a<strong> lack of experience<\/strong> \u2014 especially in the areas of collective bargaining, arbitration and anti-doping policies \u2014 <strong>can backfire.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>His <strong>take-no-prisoners strategy<\/strong> not only <strong>led to Rodriguez\u2019s historic suspension<\/strong>, but also the <strong>bitter arbitration fight<\/strong>, the <strong>animosity of other players<\/strong> and the loss of more than $20 million in base salary for the 2014 season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey retained all sorts of people to help them out in their battle with MLB,\u201d one person involved in the imbroglio said. \u201cPeople would sign on with them, and then get passed on to Juan Perez and finally Desiree.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was like Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance, except you never wanted to take a chance with her. <strong>She undermined everything A-Rod\u2019s people were trying to do to help him.<\/strong> <strong>It was a travesty.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rodriguez<\/strong> is now quietly trying to reinvent himself, showing up on college campuses, attending billionaire <strong>Warren Buffett\u2019s<\/strong> Berkshire-Hathaway conference and declaring his intention to get an MBA \u2014 even though he has no undergraduate degree.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps emboldened by the Milwaukee Brewers fans who embraced admitted PED user Ryan Braun, or Lance Armstrong\u2019s attempts to rehabilitate his damaged reputation, Rodriguez is contacting friendly media outlets to begin his reinvention tour, one source said.<\/p>\n<p>While injuries and age could end Rodriguez\u2019s playing career, his attack-dog approach to the MLB probe has undermined his chances of returning to the game as a broadcaster or executive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A-Rod appears destined to become a baseball pariah, doomed by his own bad decisions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sources told The News that <strong>Rodriguez<\/strong> <strong>listens to Desiree Perez and others in Jay Z\u2019s circle<\/strong> because he hopes to become an agent himself \u2014 perhaps even joining the hip-hop star\u2019s fledgling agency.<\/p>\n<p>That would help explain Rodriguez\u2019s decision-making process, and the choices he made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was fully aware of the options,\u201d one source said. <strong>\u201cHe just chose to follow Desiree.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"entry-title \"><em><span class=\"dfm-title metered\">Damon Dash wary of Jay Z associate and A-Rod advisor Desiree Perez<\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n<p>The article is linked by another article referencing the <strong>convicted felon and Roc Nation CEO, Desiree Perez<\/strong>, titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2015\/03\/11\/damon-dash-wary-of-jay-z-associate-and-a-rod-advisor-desiree-perez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Damon Dash wary of Jay Z associate and A-Rod advisor Desiree Perez<\/strong><\/a>,&#8221; published on <strong>3\/11\/2015<\/strong> by the <strong>NY Daily News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>NY Daily News<\/strong> article reads:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dash said the story made him hesitate to do business with Jay Z<\/strong>, given the fact that <strong>federal law enforcement<\/strong> has come down on <strong>Dash\u2019s friends<\/strong> and <strong>acquaintances<\/strong> through the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read about <strong>his affiliation with an informant<\/strong>, that he\u2019s in business with certain people,\u201d Dash says. \u201cIt\u2019s tricky for me to say, but just based on where I\u2019m from, <strong>I can\u2019t have nothing to do with that<\/strong>\u2026<strong>There\u2019s no more business being done with me and him until I understand the situation<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dash<\/strong> said he needed to have a <strong>\u201cone-on-one\u201d<\/strong> with <strong>Jay Z<\/strong> about the matter. <strong>Dash said the feds had been after him \u201cfor years\u201d<\/strong> and had <strong>arrested some of his colleagues<\/strong>, including <strong>Kareem \u201cBiggs\u201d Burke<\/strong>, who founded <strong>Roc-A-Fella<\/strong> with <strong>Dash<\/strong> and <strong>Jay Z in 1995<\/strong>. In <strong>2012<\/strong>, <strong>Biggs<\/strong> was sentenced to <strong>five years in prison for conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilos of marijuana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy man\u2019s in jail, I cried over that,\u201d Dash said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Perez<\/strong>, who <strong>manages Jay Z\u2019s 40\/40 Club in Manhattan<\/strong>, is a fixture in the rapper\u2019s <strong>Roc Nation production company<\/strong>.
