EXCLUSIVE <\/strong>\u2014 Asked Thursday about a challenge to whether Sean “Diddy” Combs’ $100 million defamation suit<\/strong> belongs in federal court at all, his attorney Erica Wolff <\/strong>gave U.S. District Judge John P. Cronan <\/strong>what she called a preliminary response. Combs had come to New York before the suit was filed intending to stay, she said, and “the Miami home has been sold.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many critics question whether Combs <\/strong>could even find new attorneys, given his horrible and violent reputation<\/strong>. The word on the street is that he threatens his attorneys<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Miami-Dade Property Appraiser<\/strong> shows no sale of that parcel since 2003<\/strong>. The owner of record is 2 West Star Island LLC<\/strong>. The company’s\u00a0amended annual report<\/a>, filed with the Florida Division of Corporations on May 26, 2026<\/strong>, names Sean Combs as CEO, Tarik Brooks as controller and Robin Greenhill as manager<\/strong>. Greenhill is the power of attorney Combs’ own lawyers served with their motion to withdraw on Monday. Greenhill was previously accused of providing payments to sex workers<\/strong> in Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones lawsuit<\/strong> against Combs.<\/p>\n\n\n

What did sell is 1 Star Island Drive<\/strong>, the neighboring lot Combs bought for $35 million in 2021<\/strong>, formerly the residence of Gloria Estefan. County records show 1 West Star Island LLC<\/strong>, managed by Brooks<\/strong>, sold it on June 26, 2026, for $55 million to JFSTAR LLC<\/strong>, a two-month-old company with a Virginia mailing address and no officers listed.<\/p>\n\n\n

Wolff did not say which house she meant.<\/strong> She has told the court she cannot reach her client, and Judge Cronan gave her until Oct. 19 <\/strong>to report whether Combs will hire new counsel or represent himself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sher Tremonte<\/strong> represent Combs <\/strong>in at least 27 different civil cases<\/strong>, and it remains to be seen if they will be asking for reprieve in those cases as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Possible replacement attorneys names being thrown around by critics, include Teni Geragos<\/strong>‘ father, Mark Geragos<\/strong>. As our readers know, Combs longtime attorney Mark Geragos<\/strong>, has been seemingly perpetually involved in scandals and misconduct<\/a>, even being labeled as a “liar for hire”<\/a> for his alleged role in an $213 million extortion<\/a><\/strong> against the Michael Jackson estate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

“Plaintiff cannot have it both ways”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The distinction matters because the case is in federal court only on diversity of citizenship. Ariel Mitchell, the attorney Combs is suing<\/strong>, lives in Miami. If Combs was a Floridian when he filed in January 2025, there is no diversity and no case. His complaint sidestepped the question by stating that he “presently resides in Brooklyn.”<\/strong> At the time, that was the Metropolitan Detention Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steven Metcalf, Mitchell’s lawyer,<\/strong> has now put Combs’ own filings in other courts in front of Cronan. In\u00a0O’Marcaigh v. Combs<\/a>, a sexual assault suit in Los Angeles,<\/strong> Combs moved to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction. On March 31, 2026, Judge Dolly Gee granted it, “relying on the evidence Plaintiff himself submitted establishing that he is a permanent resident and domiciliary of Florida,”<\/strong> Metcalf wrote. “Plaintiff obtained dismissal on the O’Marcaigh case \u2013 on this basis \u2013 while confined at the MDC.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Metcalf <\/strong>added that Sher Tremonte<\/strong>, the same firm now trying to quit,\u00a0removed a New Jersey case<\/a>\u00a0against Combs to federal court in July 2024 on the strength of diversity jurisdiction, which required representing that Combs was not a New Jersey citizen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Overall, Plaintiff cannot have it both ways,” the filing says<\/strong>, “where he claims a Florida domicile to defeat jurisdiction in California; while simultaneously, in this case Plaintiff relied on a Brooklyn detention cell to create it here.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Courts generally treat a prisoner’s domicile as the one he had before he was locked up.<\/strong> Combs was arrested in a Manhattan hotel in September 2024 and has been in federal custody since. Everything in the public record before that date points to Star Island.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Jurisdiction in Question<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cronan did not rule on the domicile question Thursday.<\/strong> He extended Combs’ time to respond to Metcalf’s letter<\/strong> and put off Mitchell’s motion to dismiss for lack of subject matter jurisdiction until the representation issue is sorted out. Nexstar<\/strong>, which spent 20 months narrowing the case against it to a single statement about drug-laced baby oil, asked that if Mitchell’s presence defeats jurisdiction, the claims against her be severed rather than the whole case dismissed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u00a0reported the telephonic hearing<\/a>\u00a0Thursday. The sale Wolff described is real. It is just not the house that matters.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
