Stung by the backlash, <strong>Kaepernick <\/strong>said, <strong>Carter&#8217;s camp <\/strong>tried <strong>&#8220;to go out and place hit pieces against me and say that I didn&#8217;t want to play football anymore.&#8221; <\/strong>Asked for proof, he said the proof called him. <strong>&#8220;We got the calls from reporters. We got the calls from journalists trying to validate are these things true. Ultimately some of those stories got pulled. But some of [the stories] organizations ran with.&#8221; <\/strong>He has not named the reporters or the outlets. NPR and NBC News asked <strong>Roc Nation<\/strong> to respond. But along with that check you have to sign a non-disparagement.&#8221; The line referred to Kaepernick&#8217;s 2019 collusion settlement with the league, reported at under $10 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kaepernick told <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/article\/2026\/09\/17\/colin-kaepernick-memoir-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Time <\/a>the line was false.<\/strong> &#8220;I did not sign a non-disparagement,&#8221; he said, pointing to years of public criticism of the NFL as evidence. He drew the distinction he thinks Carter blurred on purpose: he used the grievance process in the players&#8217; collective bargaining agreement and settled a claim, while Carter &#8220;cut a deal with the NFL to create personal benefit and undermine the protests.&#8221; <strong>The unprompted shot, he told NBC News, &#8220;speaks to a guilty conscience.&#8221; Carter, he said, &#8220;is still bringing it up in 2026.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Yankee Stadium shows were themselves damage control. Carter&#8217;s catalog had just returned to Target, a retailer under boycott from Black consumers for abandoning its diversity commitments, and he used the same freestyle to turn &#8220;sold out&#8221; into a boast about ticket sales. Kaepernick will not sell his book at Target. He is routing it through Black-owned bookstores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What The NFL Got For Its Money<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kaepernick&#8217;s account of why the league wanted Carter matches the league&#8217;s own words. He points to the <strong>2017 owners&#8217; meeting<\/strong>, reported from a leaked recording, in which owners discussed needing a Black face to help them get past the protests. <strong>Roger Goodell<\/strong> later described the relationship in a way that would embarrass a subtler partner. The courts have been hearing about something broader. On Sept. 9, California&#8217;s 2nd District Court of Appeal unanimously upheld the dismissal of<strong> Carter&#8217;s extortion and defamation suit <\/strong>against Houston lawyer<strong> Tony Buzbee<\/strong>, who represented a woman alleging <strong>Carter and Sean &#8220;Diddy&#8221; Combs raped her in 2000 when she was 13.<\/strong> Carter denied it and the woman dropped her case under suspicious circumstances, but the panel found no evidence <strong>Buzbee <\/strong>acted with malice, and <strong>Carter now faces Buzbee&#8217;s legal bill. <\/strong>We <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shockya.com\/news\/2026\/09\/10\/jay-z-loses-appeal-to-tony-buzbee-in-13-year-old-girl-rape-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">covered the ruling<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Manhattan federal court, <strong>Terrance Dixon&#8217;s <\/strong>pending suit accuses <strong>Roc Nation of &#8220;the laundering of illicit proceeds through corporate accounts&#8221; and coordinating &#8220;to shield criminal activity from law enforcement scrutiny.&#8221; <\/strong>Roc Nation disputes the claims, which are allegations. We <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shockya.com\/news\/2025\/08\/12\/jay-z-roc-nation-and-its-racketeering-trafficking-and-related-unlawful-activity-similar-to-diddy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">detailed the filing<\/a>. <strong>Carter&#8217;s lead lawyer, Alex Spiro,<\/strong> has drawn worldwide attention\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shockya.com\/news\/2026\/02\/04\/stone-cold-killer-new-jeffrey-epstein-files-name-alex-spiro-attorney-to-jay-z-harvey-weinstein\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in the Epstein files<\/a>\u00a0and, last week, in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shockya.com\/news\/2026\/09\/18\/torey-lanez-new-bombshell-filing-bullet-fragments-were-never-found-roc-nation-and-alex-spiros-involvement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tory Lanez&#8217;s habeas petition<\/a>, where <strong>a police report places Roc Nation&#8217;s chief executive, Desiree Perez, on the phone with Spiro during Megan Thee Stallion&#8217;s first statement to detectives.<\/strong> Lanez family alleges <strong>Spiro <\/strong>and <strong>Roc Nation<\/strong> were behind setting him up for the shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this year, gaming giant <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> faced a <strong>humiliating loss<\/strong>, when their <strong>casino venture with Carter <\/strong>was summarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shockya.com\/news\/2025\/09\/20\/jay-zs-and-desiree-perezs-casino-ambitions-denied-a-deep-dive-into-roc-nations-criminality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rejected<\/a>. Carter pulled out all stops, including enlisting alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2008\/06\/18\/sharptons-shakedown-getting-rich-off-racism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">extortionist<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunherald.com\/news\/local\/counties\/jackson-county\/article317079891.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Al Sharpton<\/a>.
