Production for Walt Disney Pictures’ ‘The Lone Ranger’ is officially moving forward. Heat Vision confirmed on February 12 that ‘Revolutionary Road’ writer Justin Haythe is set to work on the script, replacing ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Haythe is able to work on the script because his last writing job with the studio, ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo,’ fell apart during the recent executive turnover.<\/p>\n
Jerry Bruckheimer is set to produce ‘The Lone Ranger,’ with Johnny Depp and George Clooney rumored to star in the main roles. The story will follow the Lone Ranger’s (presumably played by Clooney) origin, and is rumored to follow a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The Rangers will be ambushed by the gang, and all will die except for the Lone Ranger. Teamed with Tonto (thought to be played by Depp), the American Indian who nursed him back to health, the Lone Ranger will bring down the gang who killed his fellow Rangers.<\/p>\n
The Lone Ranger began in the 1930’s as a radio show, and eventually it led to movie, television, comic book and novel adaptations. No production date has been announced yet.<\/p>\n
