After the SyFy Channel announced that it had canceled ‘Stargate: Universe,’ the newest series in the popular military science fiction ‘Stargate’ franchise, last month, fans still expected to see ‘Stargate: Atlantis’ and ‘SG-1’ specials in the future. But the network has confirmed that after the remaining original episodes of ‘Universe’s second season air this spring, the entire franchise will end, Cinemablend.com is reporting.<\/p>\n

While ‘Atlantis’ ended its five-year, 100-episode run in 2009 and ‘SG-1’ ended its 10-year, 214-episode run in 2007, both series have since released several straight-to-DVD movies. A new ‘Atlantis’ movie was even written and was ready to start production, but the project has been scrapped with ‘Universe’s cancellation.<\/p>\n

While MGM Television, which produces ‘Universe,’ hasn’t officially commented on the series’ cancellation and the halt of all future ‘Stargate’ projects, executive producer Joseph Mallozzi released a statement via his blog. He said the cancellation is “probably bad news for anyone hoping for any more of any kind of ‘Stargate’ ever. This seems like the end.”<\/p>\n
