{"id":40537,"date":"2011-01-24T17:01:25","date_gmt":"2011-01-25T00:01:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shockya.com\/news\/?p=40537"},"modified":"2011-01-24T17:01:25","modified_gmt":"2011-01-25T00:01:25","slug":"black-panther-movie-in-the-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shockya.com\/news\/2011\/01\/24\/black-panther-movie-in-the-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Panther movie in the works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/popwatch.ew.com\/2011\/01\/21\/black-panther-movie-marvel\/\" target=\"blank\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/blogs\/heat-vision\/black-panther-development-marvel-74005\" target=\"blank\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Marvel is developing a film adaptation of\u00a0&#8220;The Black Panther&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>According to the sites, Marvel has hired documentarian Mark Bailey to write the screenplay for the film. While asking a documentarian to write a superhero movie is a bit out of left field, the sites state that Bailey, who worked on documentaries &#8220;Pandemic: Facing AIDS&#8221; and &#8220;Ghosts of Abu Ghraib&#8221;, will add grittiness, depth and realism that will help ground the film.<\/p>\n<p>Originally, Wesley Snipes was set to star as The Black Panther (whose name is T&#8217;Challa), and Entertainment Weekly suggested Mr. Eko,\u00a0Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. But what about casting Djimon Hounsou? He&#8217;s already been T&#8217;Challa for the motion comic series <em>and<\/em> he&#8217;s still within the age range to play him. Will they go ahead and establish a relationship with Storm (and will Halle Berry reprise her role)? Time will surely tell.<\/p>\n<p>The Black Panther is considered Marvel&#8217;s first black superhero, appearing in 1966. The character is the king of the fictional resource-rich African nation of Wakanda.
