Betty White surprisingly won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor in a Comedy Series on January 30. At the ceremony, which was held at The Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, the television fan favorite actress was recognized by her peers for her portrayal of Elka Ostrovsky in TV Land’s first original scripted sitcom, ‘Hot in Cleveland.’<\/p>\n

White beat out fellow nominees Edie Falco (Showtime’s ‘Nurse Jackie’); Tina Fey (NBC’s ’30 Rock); Jane Lynch (FOX’s ‘Glee’) and Sofia Vergara (ABC’s ‘Modern Family’). “We could not be more proud of (Betty) and our entire cast,” TV Land’s President, Larry W. Jones, said in a press release issued by the network. He added that she is a true legend and an amazing comedy actress. “I am so thrilled that she was recognized for her work on ‘Hot in Cleveland.’<\/p>\n

The series also stars Valerie Bertinelli from ‘One Day at a Time,’ Jane Leeves of ‘Frasier’ fame and ‘Just Shoot Me’s Wendie Malick. The three star as best friends from L.A. who were headed to Paris, but their plane unexpectedly had to make an emergency landing in Cleveland. They realize life is better in the Ohio city, and decide to rent a house\u00a0 that comes with opinionated caretaker Elka.<\/p>\n
