Another year, another reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Warner Brothers is developing a reboot for their successful 1980s Chevy Chase film series.<\/p>\n

According to the site, Warner Brothers preemptively picked up the rights to the books the reboot as well as the original films are based on. No writer or director has been hired as of yet. The idea the studio has for the reboot is for it to be a\u00a0re-imagining and not simply a remake. They also plan for the film to be much broader than the originals.<\/p>\n

Seeing as how popular the character still is–recently, according to the site, Kevin Smith was attached to an adaptation of “Fletch Won”–the film is certain to find an audience.<\/p>\n

The original films are adaptations of a popular series of 11 books by Gregory McDonald about investigative reporter I.M. Fletcher who uncovers scandalous stories while dealing with the troubles put upon him by his two ex-wives. The first film, starring Chase and released in 1985, was so popular, due to the increased level of comedy in the stories, that a sequel soon followed in 1989.<\/p>\n

The reboot will be produced by Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Michael Sugar. David List, the manager of McDonald’s estate, is also involved in the production of the film.<\/p>\n
