Well, enough speculation, as we now have some definite answers!<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.newsarama.com\/2011\/02\/07\/cobie-smulders-now-confirned-for-maria-hill-role-in-avengers-2\/\" target=\"blank\">Newsarama<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1118031688\">Variety<\/a>, Colbie Smulders has been cast as Agent Maria Hill in &#8220;The Avengers&#8221;. \u00a0A bit of backstory on the character: Maria Hill, according to Newsarama, was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Finch. She first appeared in <em>New\u00a0Avengers #4<\/em> and later became the interim executive of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the Marvel Comics event &#8220;Civil War&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>After refreshing myself with the look of the character, I can see why a lot of people in the blogosphere where thinking that Marvel was casting for the Wasp, as Maria and Janet van Dyne do have a lot of aesthetic similarities.<\/p>\n<p>Smulders has been on writer\/director Joss Whedon&#8217;s radar for a while now; she was originally shortlisted for the &#8220;Wonder Woman&#8221;\u00a0film project when Whedon was attached to the film.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Avengers&#8221; will follow the exploits of the team of superheroes led by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).
