According to Deadine, screenwriters\u00a0Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer, who wrote the unproduced blacklist script &#8220;Family Getaway&#8221;, will write the new &#8220;Bodyguard&#8221; script for Warner Brothers.<\/p>\n<p>If you recall, the original film starred Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, the plot revolving around a slightly spoiled singer (Houston) who retains the services of an ex-Secret Service member as her bodyguard. Through the film, which is a big vehicle for Houston&#8217;s mega-watt voice, the two characters learn about what it means to truly be in love.<\/p>\n<p>The film also followed a &#8220;revolutionary&#8221; train of thought that swirled around in the early nineties because it was one of several films in the early-to-mid &#8217;90s to feature interracial romances, one of the most prominent being Spike Lee&#8217;s 1991 hit &#8220;Jungle Fever&#8221; and 1995&#8217;s &#8220;Waiting to Exhale&#8221;, also starring Whitney Houston.<\/p>\n<p>Now for my two cents: since the film was breaking new ground in the &#8220;black\/white relationship&#8221; sense, the remake could either follow the same set formula&#8211;black singer, white bodyguard&#8211;or, even more revolutionary ground could be broken since black\/white relations movies are handled in almost cliche ways now. Like, it would be interesting to see a &#8220;Bodyguard&#8221; that had two men or two women\u00a0in the lead roles.
