Paramount Pictures has expressed interest in moving ahead with director Doug Liman’s untitled sci-fi action Moon film, Hollywood Reporter<\/a> is confirming. DreamWorks initially expressed interest in the movie, which was at one time called ‘Luna,’ in 2007, but eventually decided against releasing it. Paramount then picked up the rights, but failed to initiate filming.<\/p>\n

The movie, whose script was been worked on by several big name screenwriters, including Mark Bowden, Simon Kinberg and Ken Nolan, follows a renegade group of former space employees. Led by an Eastern European woman, the group steals space equipment around the world in an effort to go back to the moon to obtain an energy source. The team is even willing to kidnap an ex-NASA employee.<\/p>\n

Liman has several other projects already in development, but now has time to focus on the Moon movie. The production on another one of his sci-fi action films, ‘All You Need Is Kill,’ has stalled at Warner Bros.<\/p>\n

Jake Gyllenhaal was originally attached to the movie, but has since moved on to other projects. Liman is therefore looking at other actors to cast, as he hopes to begin shooting in late summer. However, Paramount is waiting to see who he will be able to cast. For the lead actor, he’s looking to recast Gyllenhaal with Andrew Garfield, Emile Hirsch and Chris Pine. For the lead actress role, he’s looking at Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox, Rachel McAdams, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde.<\/p>\n
