The movie, which is the winner of the first &#8216;Big Break Movie Contest,&#8217; will open in 50 AMC chain locations on May 20, 2011. It will be released as part of the AMC Independent program, which is a rarity for a small independent film. The locations that will show the movie can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amctheatres.com\/independent\/\" target=\"blank\">www.amctheatres.com\/independent\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The contest, which was announced in August 2010, aimed to give filmmakers with previously undistributed feature-length movies the chance to gain exclusive on-screen distribution throughout the U.S. Kirkpatrick is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University&#8217;s film program, and moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to break in the film industry. He wrote &#8216;Cost of a Soul&#8217; in 2008, and began production the following year in his hometown of Philadelphia. The movie then became an official selection at such 2010 festivals at the Hollywood Film Festival, HBO NY International Latino Film Festival and the Toronto Moving Image Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Cost of a Soul&#8217; follows two wounded veterans who return home to the ghetto they strived to escaped. When they arrive home, they watch their families become involved with crime, corruption and violence.
