J.J. Abrams has confirmed that the sequel to his hit 2009 film ‘Star Trek’ will be the next project he’ll work on, Cinema Blend<\/a> is reporting. The news comes as his latest sci-fi directorial effort, ‘Super 8,’ is set to hit theaters on June 10, 2011.<\/p>\n

Paramount, the studio behind the first ‘Star Trek,’ has promised to release the sequel on June 29, 2012. However, the ‘Fringe’ co-creator and producer wouldn’t commit to that date, instead saying “hopefully we’ll be able to pass information out sooner or later.”<\/p>\n

Abrams added that he would rather take his time to make a good film than rush to get the sequel out by next summer. He further went on to say that he’s “doing everything I can to make sure that schedules don’t get screwed up. But I don’t think anyone wants a movie on time that’s not worth your time.”<\/p>\n

In regards to returning to the Enterprise, Abrams said the crew he’s been working with is brilliant, and he’s excited to get back to the ‘Star Trek’ world. “This is something I’ve been working on pretty closely, so in part they’re like, fine, we’ll meet you to discuss.”<\/p>\n

Abrams also said the sequel isn’t being delayed because they plan on adding 3D to the film. In regards to adding the technology, Abrams said “I’m not yet considering it, but you know, I haven’t gotten any phone calls…I know what’s good for me.”<\/p>\n
