Steven Spielberg, who helmed the first two ‘Jurassic Park’ movies in the mid-1990s, is lookng to reboot the franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. The director has met with screenwriter Mark Protosevich to discuss ideas for a potential fourth ‘Jurassic Park’ movie.<\/p>\n

However, both Universal, the studio that released the original sci-fi trilogy, which ended with 2001’s ‘Jurassic Park III,’ and Spielberg’s reps are saying that no one has been hired yet to write the script for the potential fourth film. Both sides are stressing that Spielberg’s talks with Protosevich are “purely exploratory.”<\/p>\n

While ‘Jurassic Park III’ earned a respectable $369 million at the box office when it was released, it earned a little more than half of its predecessor’s $619 million gross, 1997’s ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park.’ The original ‘Jurassic Park’ pulled in $915 million worldwide.<\/p>\n

The series, especially the first film, is known for greatly advancing CGI technology. With the recent surge of 3D’s popularity and digital design continuously improving, Spielberg reportedly wants to revive the popular dinosaurs to utilize the technological advances.<\/p>\n

Universal reportedly wants to release a fourth ‘Jurassic Park’ because some of its other franchises aren’t doing as well. While ‘Fast Five’ has garnered almost $587 million at the box office, ‘The Mummy’ saw a decline in ticket sales with its last release, 2008’s ‘Tomb of the Dragon Emporor.’ The Bourne series has also lost its lead star Matt Damon.<\/p>\n
