“Our Idiot Brother” was one of the many films that tried to best “The Help” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, but failed to take on the two box office juggernauts. However, the critics felt it competent enough to award it a fresh rating through Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>–67% to be exact. It would seem that audiences were on the same page as the critics, because the audience rating is an even 70%. <\/p>\n

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the general critical consensus was that “[i]t’s decidedly uneven, but like Paul Rudd’s performance in the title role, ‘Our Idiot Brother’ is too charming to resist.”<\/p>\n

Most critics felt that the film was congenial, but never really brought the funny like it promised. One critic<\/a> said the film “is never more than gently funny” and another called it a “genial sitcom-lite comedy that stumbles<\/a>” when it tries to make Rudd’s character into the wisest of his family. <\/p>\n
