According to an article in Variety, Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy director, Guillermo Del Toro, has a large number of projects lined up with Universal Studios which will keep him occupied until the year 2017. <\/p>\n
Del Toro’s main focus is currently on the Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit, which is set for release in 2012. However, once he is done with the film, he will start on at least four new films for Universal. <\/p>\n
The movies reportedly slated for production are reboots of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The fourth film is entitled Drood which focuses on author Charles Dickens’ final days. <\/p>\n
In addition to the four pictures, Universal would also like del Toro to direct an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s At the Mountains of Madness, a project Universal has wanted to produce for years but has left on the back burner until the right director came along.<\/p>\n
Universal also plans for del Toro to produce an adaptation of David Moody’s apocalyptic novel Hater and Crimson Peak, a gothic romance script written by del Toro and Mimic co-writer Matthew Robbins. He would not direct either of these films.<\/p>\n
