<\/p>\nJoseph Gordon-Levitt, one of the stars in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic kid’s cartoon and toy line GI Joe recently sat down with MTV to discuss his role as the fearsome and masked evil Cobra Commander. And while most of the cast have already appeared online in their costumes in pictures leaked over the last few months, there haven’t been any images at all relating to Gordon-Levitt as the mysterious supreme leader of the terrorist organization known as Cobra.<\/p>\n
Gordon-Levitt told MTV that “[t]he cool thing about my character was that it’s not that digital, [\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6] I get to put hours of prosthetic makeup on and see a different creature altogether. I’ve seen how he looks and it’s really cool.”<\/p>\n
Known in both the toy line as well as numerous cartoons, animated films, and comics, Cobra Commander is never seen without a mask of some sort covering up his face and is mostly identified by his raspy voice, which the star said he has his own unique but still recognizable take on, and cobra snake-themed dictator\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s uniforms. He was initially created by Marvel Comics creator Larry Hama and introduced through the mail-in toy line in 1982. The GI Joe franchise itself traces its roots back to the 1960’s action figures GI Joe, America’s Movable Fighting Man.<\/p>\n
GI Joe: Rise Of Cobra will be in theaters August 2009 and stars Gordon-Levitt, Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid, Marlon Wayans, and Ray Park.<\/p>\n
