<\/p>\nSuperhero Hype.com recently talked with Lauren Schuler Donner, producer of the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie, a solo spin-off of the popular character starring Hugh Jackman as the clawed Canadian mutant hero. Not only did she hint at several sources of material the writers of “Wolverine” drew from for the script, which also stars Liev Schreiber, Danny Hudson, Ryan Reynolds, and Kevin Durand, but also hinted at the possibility of spinning off another character from “Wolverine”, Deadpool, played by Reynolds, into his own film franchise.<\/p>\n

Rumors have been circulating on the internet for years about the big-screen adaptation of the beloved “Merc with a Mouth”, a Bea Arthur-loving samurai sword-and-gun wielding assassin and gun for hire in the Marvel Universe. There’s also been fan speculation about Reynolds in the role, especially after his performance as Hannibal King, the joke-cracking vampire hunter, in 2004’s “Blade. Trinity.” Shuler Donner says, in response to questioning about the possibility of the spinoff;<\/p>\n
“I hope so. I really hope so. [Reynold]’s so good at it.”<\/p>\n
Deadpool was created in 1991 by the creative team of artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza for Marvel’s “The New Mutants”. Initially portrayed as a psychotic ninja assassin in a distinct red and black costume with healing powers, a wide array of weapons, and yellow-tinted word bubbles indicating a unique gravelly voice, the character has morphed into a comedic fan favorite, regularly known for OCD-like obsessions with food and pop-culture figures and trivia. Deadpool, AKA Wade Wilson, eventually was revealed to have ties to the famous Wolverine’s mysterious past and has been a staple in the Marvel Universe since his introduction. He has had several his own solo series starting in 1997, where his comedic misadventures included a varied cast and his now well-known breaking of the 4th wall, directly addressing readers, often to the confusion of other characters in-book. <\/p>\n
