<\/p>\nPeace Arch Entertainment has announced a release date for the DVD release of the Germs biopic, “What We Do Is Secret”. The disc is due out on November 4, 2008. The movie tells the story of Darby Crash, born Jan Paul Beahm, the band he forms with friends in the late 1970’s LA punk scene, and his five-year plan to become famous from it. <\/p>\n
The Germs first broke onto the California punk scene with their first single, “Forming\/Sexboy”, in 1977, and are sometimes credited for being the forbearers of the “hardcore” punk movement of the 1980’s with their loud and fast dissonant sound. Crash, known for forming an almost Manson-like cult around himself of fans, committed suicide on December 7th, 1980, overdosing on heroin. Despite the popularity of the Germs, who had broken up by this time but were considering a reunion, his death was largely overshadowed by the murder of famed musician and former Beatle John Lennon in New York. <\/p>\n
“What We Do Is Secret” stars Shane West as Germs frontman Darby Crash, Bijou Phillips as Lorna Doom, Rick Gonzalez as guitarist Pat Smear, Noah Segan as Don Bolles, and Ashton Holmes as Rob Henley. The film had a limited theatrical release in August of 2008.<\/p>\n
