Marc Webb opened up about more of the elements of “The Amazing Spider-Man” to a Comic Con annual magazine, according to CinemaBlend<\/a>. According to the article, which was also reported on by Latino Review<\/a>, Webb talks more about the “untold story” he wants to tell. <\/p>\n

“It’s really important for us to be able to communicate that this isn’t a remake of Sam Raimi’s movie,” said Webb to the magazine. “There’s new territory, there’s a new villain, it’s a different Peter Parker.”<\/p>\n

One part of the untold story is featuring Gwen Stacy as the love interest instead of the traditional usage of Mary Jane. <\/p>\n

“We’ve seen Mary Jane,” said Webb. “I also think that Gwen Stacy is a young, scientifically minded woman who’s super smart, maybe even a little bit smarter than Peter at times. I like that dynamic, that there was a rivalry between the two of them in some way.”
\nHe also went on to talk about how much of Spider-Man’s humor would be in the film, which has a darker tone than other “Spider-Man” movies. “There’s this trickster quality we were very keen on exploring, with that humor and that fun and that wisecracking stuff,” he said. “We wanted to keep that alive, but we wanted it to be realistic.”<\/p>\n

“The Amazing Spider-Man” stars Andrew Garfield as the title character. Emma Stone also stars as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans is cast as The Lizard. The film will be in theaters July 3.<\/p>\n
