With ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ hitting theaters in North America at midnight last night, director Marc Webb is already hinting at who the villain might be in the sequel, Ace Show Biz<\/a> is reporting. The filmmaker said while he thinks it would be tricky to invent a major villain, if he did, it would be The Mime.<\/p>\n

While Webb, who rose to fame after directing the acclaimed 2009 hit ‘(500) Days of Summer,’ said he already pitched the villainous character, he added that his contribution is “a joke.” The director also said that he might be considering leaving the Spider-Man franchise.<\/p>\n

If he does depart from the rebooted series, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, Webb said he thinks the new helmer should include his or her own interesting choice of villain. “I think you have to be pretty protective of the canon when it comes to villain. Spider-Man has a great rogues gallery, so there’s a lot to choose from,” he also said.<\/p>\n

Webb added that he wanted to create a universe that works “in and of itself for one movie.” But he created a story that “not only withstand but anticipate future storylines.”<\/p>\n

“Movies like this tend to have sequels, (though) ultimately the audience will tell us if they want one,” Webb said. “But I kind of thought it was an interesting thing to anticipate those storylines and think about the backstories and how we can parlay those into an ongoing story.” He added that he thinks there are a lot of possibilities to explore in the series.<\/p>\n
