Box Office Predictions: MIB 3 To Dethrone The Avengers

MIB3

With Men in Black 3 making its big debut this weekend, The Avengers will have no choice, but to wave goodbye to the #1 spot. Back in 2001, Men in Black 2 opened to the tune of $52.1 million. While that’s a pretty wide time gap to be making a connection, there’s still a good shot MIB 3 might wind up on a similar trajectory, but with a boost from the holiday, possibly propelling it to a $70 million four day weekend start. As for The Avengers, it’ll enjoy an even lesser drop than last weekend, but that’s thanks to that extra day this weekend. For four days, The Avengers  [ Read More ]

Angelique Sabrina

With Rihanna’s ego inflating by the second, the music world should make room for another Bahamas native, Angelique Sabrina. Just beginning to break into the industry, Angelique is luckily not in reach of becoming a diva anytime soon. One Rihanna is more than enough right now, especially when Rihanna’s badass “Battleship” persona is outshining her talent. Angelique’s debut video, “Pull Up”, premiered on MTV.com’s Buzzworthy Blog. Lyrically the song is immensely catchy with its two-word anthem. The tempo of the track isn’t overwhelmingly produced with far too many synthesized beats. It feels organically tropical, which will have listeners “dancing” along rather than fist pumping to it. Shot in Los Angeles  [ Read More ]

The Dictator reigns over mediocrity

Everyone waits until the year is over to compile their “Best of whatever” movie lists. This has become a mundane practice. Time for a bit of a change, kids. The Dictator is seemingly the only player (movie) that wanted to be on the court this weekend. While Sacha Baron Cohen hustled with his latest outlandish character, Battleship (more like BattleshiT) and What to Expect When You’re Expecting were just going through the recycled motions. And the mid-majors (limited releases) in Darling Companion and The Samaritan, gave it a go, yet just didn’t have the talent on the sideline (behind-the-lens crew) to compete. The new releases for the respective week will  [ Read More ]

Title: Battleship Directed By: Peter Berg Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, Tadanobu Asano, Hamish Linklater, Liam Neeson, Jesse Plemons, Gregory D. Gadson, John Tui Riggins and Landry in the Navy, Peter Berg Does Michael Bay, Transformers-esque, Not Really Battleship; any of those titles are just as fitting if not more so than Battleship. Back in 2005, after finding a planet similar to Earth, NASA opts to beam a signal to what they dub “Planet G” in an effort to communicate. Also in 2005, Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) is jobless, has to live with his brother, Stone (Alexander Skarsgård), and gets busted for stealing a burrito. On the  [ Read More ]

Is The Avengers poised to take down yet another potential summer blockbuster? Most definitely. After a stellar $207.4 million opening and an equally impressive $103.1 million second weekend haul, The Avengers is on its way to another 50% loss, letting it bring in $52 million. Battleship is due out in 3,690 theaters, but poor reviews, the odd premise and The Avengers will wind up steering so much attention away, the $209 million film might only earn $30 million its first weekend out, just like John Carter. What to Expect When You’re Expecting, on the other hand, could make a solid chunk of cash for what it is. We haven’t seen  [ Read More ]

Universal Pictures’ “Battleship” aims make a splash (no pun intended) at the box office, but the film is also bringing awareness to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit organization that honors and empowers wounded military members. Subway, the world’s largest restaurant chain, will host the alumni of WWP tonight for an exclusive screening of “Battleship” in the Lutnick Theater aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. More than 200 WWP alumni will be present, and the guests will be joined by the director of “Battleship,” Peter Berg, as well as U.S. Army Col. Gregory D. Gadson, co-star of “Battleship” and a batallion leader who lost both legs in  [ Read More ]

Universal Studios is suing production company The Asylum for putting its anticipated action sci-fi thriller ‘Battleship’ in jeopardy, TMZ is reporting. The lawsuit comes as The Asylum’s straight-to-DVD action film ‘American Battleship’ is set to hit store shelves on May 22, four days after Universal’s ‘Battleship’ is scheduled to be released in theaters. Universal points to the fact that The Asylum releases low-budget straight-to-DVD mockbusters with similar titles to their big budget counterparts, including ‘Titanic 2,’ ‘The Terminators’ and ‘Transmorphers.’ The major studio is upset that The Asylum is trying to garner money off of its hard work promoting its $100 million film, which cost an additional $30 in advertising.  [ Read More ]
